I can see how some people might believe ESE, since she's not a very inventive/original/creative song-writer, thus Ni-PoLR. I think ESFj is a possibility, although not my first choice. [Then again, my Mom hates Avril Lavigne, and I think my Mom might be Gamma SF (ESI or SEE?).]
I always thought Avril looked more Intuitive than Sensing, and just because she might not always be the best lyricist, etc. doesn't mean she's not Ni-dominant. And just because someone is Ni-dominant, that doesn't mean that they'll turn out to be a good writer. I'm nowhere near as good of a writer as I'd like to be, and I'm sure there are plenty of Ni-PoLR types that make really good writers, artists, etc.
I do think that Avril Lavigne is most likely an Introverted Irrational type, and probably Fe-creative.

Perhaps that's partially the reason why some people might perceive her lyrics as overly simplistic, stupid, nonsensical, and/or childish/immature. I don't think all IEI's make really good lyricists. Like most things it requires cultivation, hard work, experience, etc. and some people have a more inherently natural talent or genius for it than others (regardless of type).

I think Avril Lavigne's latest album is pretty weak compared to her previous efforts (especially her first two records). "Smile" is the catchy hit on it; nothing else really stood out from the rest. The same goes for Lady Gaga's latest album (since I've known a few people who really like her, so I got the CD from the library and I had to wait months for it which didn't bother me). In her case, also a very weak album compared to her previous efforts, and there are maybe only two or three songs (more or less) that stand out -- Marry the Night, Judas, etc.

Just because I'm not crazy about her or the people that (really) like her doesn't mean she's not in my quadra, although who knows. Either way, for the most part, I'd say that I like Avril Lavigne more than Lady Gaga. And of course, there are plenty of singers/musicians and bands that I like a lot more than Avril Lavigne.

For now, I still think that Avril Lavigne might be a Dominant subtype Fe-INFp, while her ex-husband Deryck Whibley seems like a Normalizing subtype Ti-ESTp to me. I knew a girl who looks a bit like Avril and Jennifer Aniston, yet this girl has dark hair, and is more original/creative than Avril Lavigne (who is often seen as mediocre and diluted in terms of artistry and/or artistic integrity). I think female Fe-INFp's (especially of the Dominant subtype) will often seem more socially adaptable and "extraverted". Although I'm sure that some of them do embody the archetype of the true, somewhat withdrawn/shy/'fragile', artist/musician/singer/poet, like PJ Harvey or Sylvia Plath. Although perhaps, with at least one of those two we might be dealing with the Normalizing subtype more than the Dominant.

I remember seeing one of Avril's latest videos, and thinking how the music isn't sad enough considering how much she's crying in the video. I wonder if that's type-related, or simply that she's not musically self-reliant.

No surprise, but I take it back; I've had a change of heart. Lady Gaga's latest album isn't actually as bad as I thought. It usually takes repeated listenings for me to understand an album better. I've decided that (musically) I sort of like 7 (more or less) out of the 14 songs, so I guess the album gets about 50%. Back to Avril Lavigne -- I sang Nobody's Home at karaoke on Wednesday. I didn't realize that the audio for that would be somewhat out of sync with the lyrics, so while I started singing at the right time, when I looked at the screen I got confused, so I messed up a bit in the beginning, yet realized that I had to sing it without looking at the screen, and I think I actually sang it quite well (compared to some other songs I've sang). It's a song that suits me emotionally, and I'm not surprised that Ben Moody co-wrote it.

Regarding some other Avril Lavigne lyrics that I can relate to somewhat, here are some from the song "Don't Tell Me":

"Did you think that I was going to give it up to you -- this time/Did you think that it was something I was going to do -- and cry/Don't try to tell me what to do/Don't try to tell me what to say/You're better off that way/I'm better off alone anyway"

To me it essentially says that celibacy/abstinence is sometimes a much better choice. Unless of course, if one actually finds the right person and has adequate and real time to develop a friendship, and of course it's better if one listen to/pays attention to one's instincts, dreams, intuition, etc. Either way, I think I'm probably meant to be alone.

Regarding possible typings for Avril here's my list [from what I view as most likely to least likely (partially based on and/or influenced by the results from the poll)]:

1. Fe-INFp (Dominant subtype) [INFp-ESFj or INFp-ENTj]

2. Fe-ISFp (Dominant subtype)

3. Fe-ESFj (Dominant or Normalizing) [ESFj-ENTj or ESFj-ISFj]

I agree that she's Fe/Ti. And I'm sure that there are 'normal' IEI's out there (that study accounting, etc. even if they believe in the spiritual aspect of numbers). Anyway, not all IEI's are like us, the ones on this site. Every type has a lot of inherent variety and diversity.
