My friend was at a cafe once and these off duty cops were sitting behind him, so he started stating his views of what cops do and why they are cops out loud and the cops were getting very offended, upset and shamed.

most cops aren't that bad. they can get annoying when they give tickets for silly traffic violations (imo) but they are generally good people. i've been really impressed with how upright most of them are, and how infrequent crap like that ^ tends to happen.

Most aren't bad but they are still messengers of bad news, and they as human beings shouldn't be allowed to do all the stuff they can do to other human beings. The potential of their freedom can be frightening. I don't like to walk around getting nervous in various locations just because a cop might be there, especially when I have done nothing wrong. Cops in America have too much importance and support. There are countries where cops don't even have guns.

I think it's in the cops best interest to keep their own people on a leash because its the good cops that suffer because of the few bad apples.

The ideology and view of reality must be rewritten. I'm working on it.
Posts I wrote in the past contain less nuance.

I always think obnoxious ESTp when I think of police officers (lol I've had to change my vocabulary because I insist that's what my son calls them... don't know why, but there was something unsettling about hearing my 4 year old talk about "cops"). I agree that some of the older ones can be cool though.

(this was a light conversation, btw)

discojoe: "They should administer Socionics tests to police candidates and not let any Betas be on the force."

me: *laughs* "There wouldn't be police if they did that... actually, I'd rather see the police made up of Deltas than Betas."

discojoe: "They should only let INFjs be police."

    me: "That wouldn't work."

    discojoe: "You wouldn't want that?"

me: "If they were all INFjs it would be like not even having a police force."

They need to make cops work in type pairs to watch over each other.

Yeah the key term is force. Cops need to be S, but some police have a "psychic" back at the station to help them solve crime... probably a nick name they give to the ENFp who uses N for them.

Its more than just type... but the people who are cops tend to be those types. But there is more to a person's soul.

I admit, i didn't look through all the videos, only the bad
i knew a couple of decent cops
and i recognize the amounts of stress many of them are under
    i don't envy their job, i wouldn't want it

however, there were two videos that got to me.
the first was the $10 one
that one pissed the hell out of me
but she came away with something
of course, the whole time i'm watching it i'm thinking..what is the manager doing?
    is he calling the cops?
i mean, what do you do when you KNOW that your employee is innocent and yet she's being harrassed by the very same force that you would normally call on for this kind of action??
and noone could jump in and help her or anything because, once again, it would pit you against the force who's supposed to be protecting her...
not to mention the severity of the punishment for helping the girl

the other one that got to me i don't think was in slava's list, but was one of the side videos of one of his links
it showed a man being escorted away by cops (i'm assuming he had fought them at first), but he was now walking and seemed calm enough considering what had likely occurred just prior
however, one of the cops who's in the area they are walking to throws a fit when they reach him and starts bashing the guy with a club
this officer was obviously throwing a tantrum after the fact (still adrenalin rushed?) and even when the guy fell the officer kept clubbing him
i mean, i can see the clubbing if the guy was continuing to fight the officers, but he'd already been subdued, AND it'd been at least a full minute if not more since the clubbing officer had been in the fray (a minute is a loooong time during/after a fight)

as for the other videos, the one where the purse snatcher got ran over...that one was shocking...but i think it was one of those misjudging things...low Si? hehehe

and the others...well, not knowing the whole story doesn't help
the student was playing up on the situation...however painful
and it seems to me that tasers pose an issue now of being able to punish someone without leaving any marks behind..i mean, how does one go about proving that the tasering was overused/unneeded? no broken noses, no scratches, no black eyes, no missing teeth, so obviously the victims weren't abused....i can see that being used to prove a cop's innocence of wrongful use of force

Cops do not care if they hurt other people, because the object is for them to do what they think their job is and not get hurt themselves. The thought to not hurt other people is not in their job description.

I don't think it's that they don't care if they hurt people... I'm sure most of them wouldn't want to hurt a little kid for example... but they know that people have to get hurt sometimes, so many of them don't think as much of doing it as they probably should.

Or more specifically they know because of their occupation they need to hurt others at times to avoid getting hurt themselves.

Otherwise they'd be out hugging people and not clubbling and tazering them.

That's a big part of it, but there's more to it than that. They are preventing other people from getting hurt, too. For example... they may shoot someone who's pointing a gun at another person.

I am ambivalent on the matter of cops. My position used to be highly attracted. I recall being tempted to order my mother to take me to one of their establishments in my adolescence. We were heading home late in the evening when I noticed a light in the police station's respectful sign lacked fluorescence. Understandably, I saw this as a golden opportunity to be seen as a savior in the eyes of the enchanters employed there and pictured myself being the center of an enthusiastic group hug while the officers surrounding me practically chanted their thanks for the deed I had done for them after they had spent a wary day dealing with less dutiful citizens. Afterall, suppose someone in need was unable to locate the station in the dark due to the lack of light. After processing this realistic scenario in my analytical mind I concluded that only good could come of bringing this to what I now thought of as the fellas' [I had hoped the statistic of males dominating the force would apply in this case] attention. Unfortunately, it was then that I noticed that I had spent too much time weighing the pros and cons in my decision making for we had already made it to our apartment complex and I was left wondering what could have been...

These imaginative escapades came to an end about a month or so later when I recieved my first traffic ticket.
