    Dark Core Faces Test

Using digitally-generated facemorphs of people who are high and low in dark traits, the scientist Nicholas S. Holtzman Ph.D. has discovered that people are reliably able to identify such traits in others on the basis of nothing but their faces.

1st time, I suspect maybe that living through a childhood where my parents were constantly arguing and getting angry to the point of breaking things made me hyper attuned at detecting dark personality traits in others.

First time, I'm kind of surprised I did so well, but at the same time I've always felt I had a knack for spotting out malicious people early on.

This is a weird test. I usually listen and read people to form these views as I tend to notice contradictions in behavior and what they say. I really try to avoid face judgements. Seems like a jump to conclusion.

    ... Let's see.

LOL. I really had to put all personal biases aside and think about the average because somehow I sort of see some balancing factors between traits what make up a functional whole.

I might have spent too long trying to study the differences in facial expressions in each set.

I actually gave up with that. It should be completely non emotion related. I looked at how eyes are set which seems stupid. Apparently eye brows are a giveaway but the test seems to have therefore a selection bias and I suppose that the eyebrows affect that impression.

I don't know if it is "completely non emotion related" (I don't necessarily disagree that the faces have a neutral expression but)- neutral expression can still have subtle almost imperceptible expressions (for instance, some of those faces appeared more ... arrogant - esp when asked about narcissism. And im sure things like head positioning and whatnot can affect the nonverbal impression created). I am not familiar with the eyebrows study but perhaps it contributes to facial expressions (say more innocent or wondering eyes vs. more confident or even arrogant expression - eyes and eyebrows are a big part of it).

Looking at it again, dark triad faces tend to seem more charismatic, even in these still pics. I wonder if you can entirely eradicate emotions/feelings from an experiment like this - not that "facial morphology" isn't valid per se. But people are also influenced by the way they feel about themselves internally - so lack of remorse, empathy, conceit can sometimes...leak out. Ofc it's possible its confirmation bias but I feel like there might be something to it.

I personally spent very little time looking at the pics and went with my gut feeling, a couple of secs maybe less than a sec - idk the exact time but I tried to not analyze it too much

It works close to a composite face and therefore plausible traits so I suppose individual minimal expressions are not really useful (too much noise) but I can be wrong. I actually did it second time putting my own confidence as the determinant element as in "if I could handle that face" and I scored 25 % for both.

I did the same with this and the phonetic test and got all except one correct on that as well. It seems these kind are test are just things you are either capable of recognizing right off the bat or you aren't, prolonged analysis doesn't do much good.

Took this test a second time trying to spend no more than a few seconds on each set of photos. I got higher scores (63% M 38% F 51% overall).
Heavier eyebrows looked more imposing on one individual than on another. Weary eyes on one individual could look flat and unfeeling on another, it's confusing.

Out of interest I googled Disney villains to remind of how evil is portrayed and I noticed how their eyebrows are frequently bold and arched.

Below average in females - 50%
    Above average overall - 63%

    Exact same scores

I thought the dark faces were more attractive, to be honest. Ahhh, good ol' unconscious psyche, seeking out the familiar (both parents have NPD). Thanks, brain.

On the bright side, I don't buy into the concept of there being dark facial traits anyway.

    10000000000% THIS.

I can spot them from miles away, but it's based on traits, not based on looks.

On the other hand, I read eyes eerily well. I trust my judgment with that. I do believe you can detect dark traits in peoples' eyes sometimes. That is not genetic like facial traits, though...it's more of an emotion reading thing.

Hmm. I'm going to select based on who I think looks more attractive and see what results I get then.

Welp...I'm attracted to nut jobs. Yeah, that kind of explains a lot.

Note to self: never turn gay. In fact, just turn straight.
@Comparticularly Mental That's it. Fuck the past 5 years of knowing your personality, etc. Our relationship is now over, based solely on the fact that I am attracted to you. LOL.

Same, the impression I got from dark faces was "attractive but douchey" while the "light" faces to me seemed "safe but boring".
