Oh! this guy! I've wondered about him. Ok, I may have a strange type to throw out. I think he's EIE.
The Barnum or Forer effect is the tendency for people to judge that general, universally valid statements about personality are actually specific descriptions of their own personalities. A "universally valid" statement is one that is true of everyone—or, more likely, nearly everyone. It is not known why people tend to make such misjudgments, but the effect has been experimentally reproduced.
The psychologist Paul Meehl named this fallacy "the P.T. Barnum effect" because Barnum built his circus and dime museum on the principle of having something for everyone. It is also called "the Forer effect" after its discoverer, the psychologist Bertram R. Forer, who modestly dubbed it "the fallacy of personal validation".
I swear this thread has been posted three times already.
People often remark on how confident and sociable he is, his shtick is diving into situations he shouldn't be in, like cartels in Mexico, Chernobyl, etc. and then making friends with the people he meets there while having an obsession with artifacts and architecture from Soviet times.
I think he's interesting and I've been watching his videos for a good while, but he plays fast and loose with other people's time and health (has some streak of being anti-vax-adjacent), so he can definitely come off as disrespectful in some situations. I'm also not sure how much of the goodwill he shows is just for the camera, but that's just a feeling.
