Phobia means fear in greek. Islamophobes(influenced by the right-wing pidgeonholing about security in recent politics) see muslims as a threat. Muslims react to that and see islamophobes as a threat. And instead of calming down, both sides escalate. I think there is a lot of victimization and blame shifting happening right now.
I don't think banning islamophobia will solve the underlying concerns about security that drive current politics, I think it will just lead to an increased polarization and exacerbate social segregation in society. Islamophobes won't disappear just because we ban islamophobia. And discrimination and racism are already crimes in most juridictions.
I rarely feel alone. I rarely talk to anyone, yet in my head i have the most amazing, the most fantastic discussions with the people in my life. In real life, what most people talk about is several orders of magnitude lesser than their inner experiences. Most people never reveal the singularity of their subjective experience.
Maybe I should learn to explore other people's consciousness. Maybe I should aim for a real space between me and others. Instead of cultivating monologues and fantasies. It's hard, but the alternative to this seems to be madness. ~ lkdhf qkb
