I think I was 21 years old when I discovered Rand, and became a follower. Not until I reached about 40 I got my head out of my ass and learned that life, and the economy, are a lot more complicated and full of nuances than the works of Rand and many libertarians try to make us believe. Most of all I came to the insights that libertarians either are individualistic narcissists who explain everything from their egocentric perspective (which is incapable of using a birds-eye view), or they are naive idealists with tunnel visions. Logical reasoning, devoid of empirical evidence, rules supreme in libertarian circles.
Not that I haven't learned anything from libertarianism, but in my old age I have come to admire Karl Marx just as well as Friedrich Hayek or Ludwig von Mises.
To put it differently: the whole discussion I am reading above, is just another one of imbecile true believers. I know, for I was once such an imbecile.
I have spoken.
