Default “Psychological Distance”: Can You Feel It?

My boyfriend who is an ILE, with no knowledge of socionics, used the phrase “psychological distance”, saying he didn’t feel any psychological distance with me. Is this something that you (think you) can feel? I thought that this was a socionics phrase only and had never heard it anywhere else before?

its not a socionics phrase lol, it basically just means he feels very intimate with you, that you are present with each other, connects well etc

I assumed it was some crappy indirect translation. Where have you heard it from before?

Yeah, if that’s true then that’s a great example of me being 1D Ni Fi.

PS I still think you’re an SEI.

Don't you need a little more to feel it, don't you feel a little like you need it? I have not heard it before, but I know exactly what he means by it.

Of course I feel psychological distance. I am so psychologically distant that it is necessary to view me, if you so wish, through the psychological equivalent of binoculars. That's something that really makes an impact on you.

What does it mean to lack psychological distance from someone? If you did, you would know all of their thoughts and feelings as your own, and then they would no longer even be another person in your eyes. If you did that to everyone, you would be a practitioner of solipsism, a condition most people would find distressing.

That probably isn't true. I suppose what lacking psychological distance is intended to mean is feeling "close" to someone. Well, I certainly am sensitive to the level of closeness I have with someone. Not closeness as in how fond I am of them but rather closeness as in how intimate we are. The more intimate I am with someone, the more things it becomes appropriate for me to do in their presence, say to them, and reveal about myself. There are very few people, almost none, toward whom I feel very much psychological closeness in that sense. That's why psychological binoculars are a tool essential to most people's dealings with me.

Whenever people say things like "they are close" or "he is distant," they are talking about psychological distance. There are a lot of things under that umbrella, such as the degree to which people understand each other's rules of engagement for social interaction, the amount of honesty people show, the amount of good will people have towards each other, etc.

I think I have quite other centric perception (allocentric) meaning that I do not fully realize being part of something with my body. I listen others more than I listen myself - it leads to subconscious paranoia, I think.

Reading profiles at least: ESE, EIE and ILE have problems with it.

If @sbbds types you SEI and @Number 9 large types you IEI, you have a very bad case for being IEI, @maniac.
