    Thumbs down Life of Freedom

    Anyone else feel like,
    A. They don’t want to have kids. I adore kids and was fortunate to have some in my life and have that influence, but I prefer being the “cool aunt” type to a primary caretaker.
    B. Almost every job they have had had made them completely miserable. The inhumane work hours and pay for hard work. The lack of vacation time (also inhumane, people need adequate time for self-care and with their loved ones to thrive and work at their optimal). I’ve never been fired and I’ve had a million jobs... mostly nothing, but monotony and/or misery, which I ultimately end up leaving the job due to.
    C. They want to live a more freeing life while being able to make a living in something they enjoy, but are finding it near impossible to do so.

Preferably by someone who didn't learn how to have sex from porn. They tend to suck in bed. I should mention that in the porn thread though.

No need to apologize. I noticed you weren't seeing the full forum on a pc when I saw your posts in E4 thread. It's fine. People will figure it out or just scratch their heads and move on.

You're not looking for freedom so much as you're looking for purpose. We think we yearn for some absolute freedom but we truly don't, we need barriers, we want barriers. But what we don't want is a lack of purpose.

Check out this amazing book called Man's Search For Meaning as well as some stoicism with the Enchiridion, On The Shortness of Life, and Meditations. They'll give you a solid perspective. If you don't mind a religious suggestion, Problems of Work addresses your concerns perfectly, one of my favorite books that I'd consider life changing, though I guess I'd put the former mentioned books in same category too lol.

    Best of luck.

Just endure scrapping by with a shit job until your relatives pass away and you can live off of inheritance. Seems to be the go to strategy for a lot of folks.

I used to think that this would work, but recently, end-of-life nursing homes are taking all the money that a person saved throughout their life, and once that money is gone, then they drop the person onto the state coffers.

My father and mother are in a full-care facility which is costing them $14k/month. When they have no money left, they will be evicted or placed in a Medicare facility. Medicare won't contribute to assisted living until all the person's money is gone.

    https://www.agingcare.com/questions/...eet-215218.htm

Bottom line: Don't count on inheriting anything. Unless the relatives pass right away, the for-profit companies are going to take it all. You won't see a dime.

Welcome to the world of Private Health Care.

And hey, if I got all of grandma and grandpa's cash, I think I could spare a few bucks to buy a Senator or two to keep things rolling along just the way I want them to.

I love kids. I have one and I'd love to have more of them.
I was actually a stay-at-home dad to my son, and that was more rewarding than any engineering project I've ever worked on.
However, if I had more kids, it would make more sense for me to keep earning and have the wife raise the kids, because I'm now making enough to support a family on one income.

I've had a lot of jobs, and I think I liked or loved every one of them. It was my bosses that were hard to take. They were either incompetent, evil, stupid, ignorant, narcissistic, clueless, etc. Of all my bosses, I had exactly two whom I liked and admired.
I quit most of my jobs (when I wasn't fired from them) when I learned 80% of the job. I figured it would take me 50 years to learn the remaining 20%, and who wants to do that?

I'm doing what I enjoy, more or less. Some days are better than others, but I can't actually think of any job that I'd like better.

Here is the key to what makes a job a good job:

You need the autonomy to make decisions yourself, and you need to feel that your actions are making a real difference to the people you work with.

Lol I’ve been meaning to read Man’s Search for Meaning. I’ve got it. There is way more I could have added about my life, but I thought it was best not to. I am meditating : ) Need to step it up though. Thanks for the suggestions!

I feel that way about children, too. When it comes to work, I do stick with jobs more easily, but one nice thing about security is not having to think about that part of life as much. That comes out of resignation, I suppose, about having to do the things I actually like outside of work. There are only a couple of activities out there that I actually like, so I don’t assume it’s likely that I’ll ascend to specialness in any.

Adam that’s great to hear about your having a child you love, truly. I feel like I’ve had decent autonomy in plenty of behavioral health jobs I worked, but so many other aspects were shit, including very low pay for tough and emotionally taxing work. The system is fucked. To even get my own mental health in check to be able to deal with the job and better help others, was $100 a session. It’s all fucked. I’m in a different situation now, but I’m back on the job hunt and have taken a leave from my grad program to focus on recovery and healing My time management is awful, always has been and school has always been a sort of nightmare that I somehow managed to still do well in (but making myself sick at times in the process). Just trying to figure it all out still

It sounds like there are some “older” people on the board too, which is nice. Mad respect to those who raise children and do it well btw.

It is difficult to disagree that children are a waste of moolah. Something for me to think about. You'd probably be better off putting all your excess loot into an index fund. I think one benefit of having your own children is that it boosts the ego and may be a more efficient way of boosting your legacy than giving your dough to the government.

Finding a job you enjoy seems like one in a million, but finding one where you don't feel overtaxed and underpaid is doable.
It's so funny that women without children get comments and stuff, cuz if you're really so idk, selfish, lacking a sense of grand purpose, immature, whatever, do those assholes really want you to share your values with kids? Dumb.
You were born in a time where you could choose to have babies and/or work your ass off for someone else instead of being FORCED into on or the other. So life kinda sux, but it sux less than it could, lol

Yeah, I'm getting a higher degree in part due to the degree I have sucking ass and my jobs do not have good pay or benefits especially for the type of work I do which is taxing in every way. I also hate office type work/paper pushing quite badly. I could go further into this, but let's just say my options are somewhat limited, which may be a good thing. I'm doing some simple work that has nothing to do with my degree now (which are not usually easy to get due to being "overqualified"), but could prove fruitful in several aspects (plus I'm getting paid and getting out of the house). I'm on leave from my program which I will be returning to in 2020 (summer or fall). Hopefully I'm making the right choice in terms of my program, but once again, my options seem limited, which in my case, may be a good thing. I've been developing ideas using my degree though and I think I know where my future is headed

I probably would have been a bit happier at least if we were compensated in our field and received benefits the way we should, but unfortunately this is not the case.

I haven't met many IEE of the Harmonizing subtype. But the one I've met was around 30 yo, and she was quitting her academic job, and wanted to open a barber's shop because she liked cutting peoples hair.

Lol, I don't know how to cut hair, but I do enjoy coloring hair funky colors a lot. I do it on myself all the time and I've done it on other people. Considered going to school for it and they thought I was a perfect fit, but, couldn't due to financial stuff :/

Honestly though, I think things are playing out the way they are meant to and I don't think I'd survive in the fashion/beauty realm ... lol though my current job has to do with that a bit, maybe that will be a good indicator! I do feel out of place so far, but I'm using it as a learning/growth opportunity. I don't want to stay stagnant in my functions and I want to further develop

Your life is much better than mine. At least you have never been fired. I have difficulty holding down jobs and I seemed to get fired everywhere I go.

I want to run away to a place where nobody knows me and then start my life afresh there. I recently got forced to resign from my job, and whenever my friends saw me, they will start asking me questions like, "Have you found a job yet?"
My family are even much worse. They will say stuff like, "You have too many jobs, what do you write in your resume?"
I'm sick of hearing those stuff coming from my friends and family.

I finally understand why there are so many "missing" people in this world, people who disappeared mysteriously from their friends and family. They're probably like me, they're sick of the same old routine of life, and they wanted to pursue a new life.

it's not easy hermit. society isn't exactly tailored to support the varying talents of individuals. i don't know where you live or what your situation is completely, but i'm sure you will find something that works for you. some of us take a bit longer to find our place and there is nothing wrong with that.

The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

Meh, it was a bit of a poke at something someone else said in another thread, not this one, but I didn't link the post. The moment has passed. I am not stupid or naive about it.

I am sure that not all men learned from porn. Some had good teachers, up close and personal. I don't even remember the post so not going to speculate further.

"Learned from porn" means "learned exclusively from porn" in this context, which should be obvious.
