    There are some beautiful homes on rivers near me but I would not live in them for that reason. Some are built on stilts (I think they are called that) but even that seems like a hassle to deal with since the area does flood about once a year. I live on a lake (it's in my back yard) and have not had issues with it flooding other than it rising during hurricanes and drowning some trees about 10-15 feet from the usual shoreline. It didn't come near the house though.
