Actually Nikolai Medvedev also helped to create Model A.

Basically Augusta started with a Jung-like model ("Model J") where people only used 4 of the elements (functions).

I'm not sure what the exact process was that led to Model A, the history is a bit obscure.

But, you can see that the individual functions (other than the ego block) and function dichotomies weren't really very prominent or well-developed in her early work compared to types and type dichotomies. The first descriptions by Weisband aren't broken down by functions, they're more like a collection of observations.
