What cognitive functions comprise shame?

Shame is a complex social emotion. I am going to postulate it's Fe -> Si, but I'm not entirely sure.

I agree, Fi is defo the function to shame others for having ethics other than the Fi user, or they'll say something like "you do you". Fi users, especially EII shame themselves for not aligning their behaviour with their ethics. e.g. they'll tell themselves they shouldn't act a certain way.

I would add Te tends to feel shamed by Fi users to act a certain way (I guess that's duality). Also, if their reputation is attacked of damaged they'll feel shamed.

It's closest to Fi IMO. It's an emotion but not one that can be easily communicated to others.

All types can equally feel shame, perhaps for different reasons but to the same intensity - sociopaths excluded. If specific IEs could be associated with shame, then types with them as dominant should feel shame even more intensely, which is highly doubtful. Concepts of shame are really products of upbringings and social influences; and type would only affect how one senses and rationalizes it. Shame is realization, not function........

The Ni function is more vulnerable to feeling guilty and conscientious in an overly sensitized way than average - often worrying excessively about nonissues compared to others. Se is the most immune. Sadly, it is the latter who tends to exact more punishments in societies when in fact they tend to be the ones who need to check their own conscience rather than projecting onto other sensitives while strongly acting like the Ses are ok just because they feel it.
