What is Socionics?

- Socionics is a large list of observations of people, which are called "type descriptions" and "ITR descriptions".

- The more and more observations of people that you manually add to the "bank" of Socionics, the more closer to reality the list apparently gets.

When does Socionics seem to "work?"

- Socionics is about fitting a new observation of people into that description. If it fits, then it "works". If it doesn't, then well... it doesn't work.

- Apparently you "predict" behavior by saying that that behavior will stay the same.

What is Socionic type about?

- Again, a Socionics type is just a description made up of observations of a person or a group of people with apparently similar traits.

What about Model A? Functions? Information aspects?

- Again, they're just lists of descriptions of observations of people that are organized in a neat way.

What about the idea of information metabolism?

- A list of apparent predictable repeated patterns that occur, when you mix two kinds of clearly expressed different modes of cognition together.

What about intertype relationships?

- Lists of observations of interactions between two people, that are apparently predictable and unfold in an unchanging, repeated, linear pattern.

How is Socionics useful?

- It's useful for coming up with a list of observations of people.

Do I have a type?

- I'm a mix of many different "types". Apparently I use both F and T, S and N. I don't see much contradiction between those two dichotomies. I express them according to which circumstances are appropriate for expressing them in that moment. My opinions and values easily change according to newer things that I find and newer information that I gather and newer things that I experience. And it's likely that I keep changing my values and opinions in ways that I or anyone else can't easily predict in the future.

What is Socionics?

Socionics is a theory of information metabolism and action production, which describes some of the deepest structure of the mind.

When does Socionics seem to "work?"

It's best for analyzing specific information, behaviors, and interactions (as IM elements, IM goals, and IM element relationships respectively).

It can also broadly be used to predict relationship quality, but with a larger margin of error.

What is Socionic type about?

It's a specialization of the psyche's goal structure, something that gives a specific purpose to your life that is locally incompatible with other, equally valid purposes.

What about Model A? Functions? Information aspects?

Information aspects = fundamental categories of information

Functions = the different priorities a goal can have in the psyche, where a goal is understood as optimizing one of the above categories (information aspects)

Model A = the collection of all such functions with their possible assignments to aspects (or "IM elements")

What about the idea of information metabolism?

We take in information about the external world, process (transform) it mentally -- changing our internal state -- and eventually produce action as output, which changes the worldstate.

What about intertype relationships?

They are the "macroscopic" yet more complex analog of IM element relations which manifest between types due to the sum total of the typical IM interactions going on between them - between their functions.

I see them as a "limit" of typical interaction which can nevertheless be obscured by other factors such as culture, maturity, and political beliefs.

How is Socionics useful?

It's useful for understanding the limitations of your own personality structure and thinking, and so for judging others more fairly.

It also gives a unique insight into the mind which has both scientific and spiritual implications.

Do I have a type?

Me? I'm LII. I've had consistent goals throughout my life, although the way it manifests has changed.

In my experience everyone has consistent IM patterns, though of course everyone uses all of the functions.
