Default A Hypothetical Method for Self-Typing

This method is most likely to work for those who have some experience with Socionics in general and in typing actual people in particular. Go through each part of the experiment sequentially, opening one spoiler box after you've done the one before it. Only read the responses to this thread once you've completed the experiment yourself.

Make a list of all 16 types according to how easily you can see yourself being a certain type, based on your experience with actual people of different types. Think about this for a while and put some effort into making the list. Let #1 be the type you can see yourself being the most and #16 the type you cannot see yourself being at all. You can do it on paper or your computer, but try not to rush if you're on a computer. The keyboard makes output too easy sometimes.

Surprise: Your dual is at the bottom of the list. Or is it? I have no idea whether this method works or not. It's an experiment to see how blind people are to the superid, both a vital ("unconscious") and weak area of the psyche. If that explanation doesn't work, I'm open to others. It might work out that people get different results because they value/see different parts of themselves differently.

Post a response to this thread including the results of the experiment and why you think it might or might not have worked. This idea could have been complete bullshit, but I'm curious to see what happens anyway.

LOL AT THIS, you surprised me xD

    Okay, my list:

    1. SEI
    2. ESE
    3. IEE
    4. SEE
    5. ESI
    6. SLI
    7. IEI
    8. ILE <--- dual
    9. ILI
    10. EII
    11. EIE
    12. SLE
    13. LII
    14. LSI
    15. LSE
    16. LIE

Imo, your dual is not the one least like you. You value the same things as them, and therefore may lead a similar lifestyle. If a person doesn't have a dual, they will often try to fill their life with the kind of stimulation that dual will provide. If they live with a dual, they will adapt to each other and probably even exercise their superids more freely around each other.

Your conflictor, on the other hand....has nothing type-related in common with you at all. I've shared a few similar interests with LIEs in the past, but we came at those interests from opposite perspectives. We live in entirely different rhythms, in service to entirely different IM-values.

You're right that the dual is not the one least like you. The mechanism for the test is subjective self-perception, not actual objective qualities. In other words, I speculated that people might be incapable of seeing their dual in themselves, because the superid block is composed of functions that are both weak and vital, which means that it has the greatest potential to be a blind spot to the psyche. The superego block contains weak functions, but those functions are at least on the mental track, so they are parts of your psyche that you can mentally apprehend on a "conscious" level. The id block is made of functions that are vital, but those are strong functions. So you might be able to feel a similarity even if you can't explain why, etc. It was just a hypothesis, and I think it's a fun way to see what kinds of coincidences show up. It might be that the raw data becomes useful later on, for the individual posting it, or for the forum.

Glad I managed to surprise you, though. At least one of my friends has cheated on this already lol.

There was an interesting pattern in your list. Your dual (assuming your self-type is correct) was halfway down the list, and your conflictor at the bottom. That's a little bit symmetrical. And the positions 8 and 16 are both occupied by quasi-identicals.

Ohh I see what you're getting at, makes sense!

Thanks, yeah I noticed that it was a little bit symmetrical...well I tried to think in terms of who I've met that I could see strong similarities with, and who I couldn't, like you said.
