In reality this would increase their heart rate and make the poison spread faster and kill them

In case the poison has the supressive effect, for example, then physical load and adrenalin could to compensate it. If this additional time is enough for body to destroy and remove the poison, this could to help. It's analogue of getting a stimulator.
Mb there were spiders against which this helped to someones. Today spiders with the same name may differ from those of the past due to natural selection processes and this method stopped to work.

true tho, apparently it was just one of those old legends that would make up for the cases of depression. if you were depressed you were believed to be poisoned by some wild animal, so dancing actually worked
