    Default what is my type?

Here are some things about me and my life that hopefully offer some clues so you guys can help me out. These are the main personality shifts I've had in my life. Also, I'm 22 and male.

*sorry if this is long, thank you very much if you take the time to read.

    1. As a kid I was very imaginative. I played with toys a lot and imagined myself in stories to act through. I did this with friends but also by myself. I wasn't shy about my imagination until I was a little bit older. I was maybe even slightly detached from reality. One time a kid pretended to start punching my imaginary friend and I flipped out because it felt real to me. I also would listen to music a lot and imagine myself playing in the band. I still do this as an adult. I fantasize scenarios a lot. I also did very well in school until I stopped caring when I was around 12. After that I did okay but I never tried because it was boring to me.

    2. When I reached about 11-12 years old I began to develop a strong desire to master some kind of skill. I started with soccer and I would practice all the time. Eventually, since I didn't think I was going to be the best at soccer, I tried skateboarding. I became very practiced at both skills but since I wasn't the best I needed to find something I had a real knack for. I picked up the guitar at around age 13-14 and that became my main passion. Something about a skill being impressive or "cool" motivated me back then. I was modest in conversation but deep down I needed to be the best. I used others as a benchmark to track my progress and I made it through everyone I knew.

    3. After high school I went to school for music to study jazz guitar because I knew learning jazz would give me a complete understanding of how music works. However, I ended up switching courses to a philosophy program for a year and then switching back again. This is around when I discovered personality types and I found it extremely stimulating to read and think about. I was becoming more interested abstract theory and logical reasoning compared to in my teen years. I ended up switching back to my music program last year and then dropping out again. Now I'm just teaching guitar and trying to get my life in order.

*Just to note, the reason i felt so comfortable with not finishing school was because I was there to learn, not to get a degree. I didn't feel like I was learning anything that I was interested in and it's pretty overwhelming for me to take in a lot of information that I don't care about. Also, always having to meet new people after switching programs so many times was really hard for me.

    4. I'm 22 now and I think I'm in another personality shift at the moment. For a long time I've wanted to learn to control my impulsive behaviors more but I still struggle with that. I've been thinking a lot about how to structure my life and days in a more simple and planned way. I've also been thinking a lot about my ideas and plans pertaining to teaching music. I'm also learning to be less serious about my skills because I've seriously worn myself out with that mindset. At this point I just want to simplify my life so I can aim at something. I'm even becoming more drawn to simplistic but beautiful music. I used to like the complex and impressive.

Anyway, hopefully someone here will be able to solve the puzzle. It's pretty hard to objectively analyze yourself and nobody I know is interested in this stuff. So thank you if you take the time to read this.

Se and Ti and Ni, but I'm guessing and can't tell the relative strengths.

Why not take a test? There are some good ones around.

I've taken some tests, I just tend to not trust them. The questions are too simplistic and I could write paragraphs explaining why I chose a certain answer. I think my reasons for picking a certain answer have more to do with my type than the answer I picked.

If it helps on the official MBTI tests I get INFP and INTP. My Big 5 results correspond to that too. Then on the sociotype.com test I get INTp.

Roughly sounds EIE (or ILE?), you can try the questionnaire if you want to go deeper.

I was going to say Beta NF from reading your first three sentences, and then I read your last line. EII, LII, ILI. Not much in common there except introversion. I dunno.

I believe that some people don't fully become their type until their late twenties. I think I'm one of them. However, with respect to which type you are, I'd suggest taking other tests (Subteigh's is good) and just interacting with people on the forum. Eventually, you'll figure it out.

    Tell me about yourself.

What do you study or do for a living? How did you come to do that? What do you like or dislike about it?

I teach guitar now but I just started. I actually enjoy it. It's bringing me back to the basics. Instead of being in a highly competitive environment like at school I get to be the guru finally. The kids I teach are also interesting. I only dislike one of them so far because she is very hard to get to focus.

What are your values, and why?

I value skill, competence, deep understanding. In terms of peoples behavior, I value when people can have a discussion about ideas and the world without getting emotionally explosive. Like everyone, I have moments when I explode too but only when someone is irritating me or something. I also value making opinions on well thought out reasons. In my daily life I make a lot of impulsive decisions on curiosity or sensual pleasures but my worldview is pretty well thought out.

What else do you do on a daily basis? What are your interests and hobbies? Why do you do them?

I go on youtube a lot, listen to music, play instruments. I plan the structure of my life but fail to execute on it pretty often. I used to smoke weed a lot.

Describe your relations with family and friends. What do you like and dislike about them?

I've met some good friends throughout my life but friendships never last for me. Because of circumstance, not because the friendship ended badly. After high school i cut out all of my friends because I wanted to move on. I've done the same thing recently now that I'm going down a new life path. I dislike that I can't say what I truly think around people without people thinking I'm being argumentative. I've met a few friends that don't judge me too harshly though and I appreciated that.

What do you look for in friends? In romantic relationships?

Haven't dated a lot because I've never known how to go for what I want. In terms of friends I just care if they say interesting stuff and don't take their beliefs too seriously. I'm not that picky. I usually don't get along with cocky-materialist-showman types of people.

What conflicts have you encountered recently with other people? Why did they happen? Which kinds seem to happen on a regular basis?

Usually my family getting mad at my opinions. Which to me seems so foreign because I don't care what other people think to the point of getting mad about it. I've always thought I was tactful but not everyone seems to think so. I think I'm more tactful with people I have just met.

How would your friends describe you?

Keep to myself a lot but have bursts of talking a lot too. Generally a loner though and self sufficient. I can be fun and witty around certain types of people but stone cold with others. I guess that's just it, everyone I know would describe me very differently depending on when they knew me, what mood I was in, and what I thought about them.

What do people generally see as your strengths? What do you like about yourself?

I can learn skills pretty fast. I can understand logic pretty easily even though I disregard it at times. I'm easygoing.

What are your weaknesses? What criticism do you often face from others? What do you dislike about yourself?

Argumentative, impulsive and can't stick to a schedule. I'm also bad at dealing with my health. I just get bored and distracted easily.

In what areas of life can you manage well on your own? In what areas of your life would you like help?

I can manage my job on my own, I can manage my ideas and worldview on my own, I can manage getting good at skills. Areas I struggle with are meeting new people, scheduling/getting things done (although I'm never late because I anticipate things so long beforehand), being healthy and making tasty food.

What things do you dislike doing? What things do you enjoy more than others?

I really dislike doing hands on stuff unless its fun or sporty. Like i hate fixing things, untangling wires, cleaning up or working with tools. I enjoy explaining things (which is why i like teaching), using my imagination, learning skills, watching youtube videos or tv.

What goals, aspirations, or plans do you have for the future? How did you come to have them?

Continue to master the guitar and music, continue trying to learn about how the world works, have a job that doesn't feel like a job. My plans aren't actually plans. More like ways of living my life that are non-specific.

If you had enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life without working, what would you do with your time?

Exactly what I'm doing now but I'd probably go out and experience the world and people more. I probably could do that now but I end up imagining it instead..

What traits do you find endearing that others might dislike? What traits are considered positive/neutral by others but tend to annoy you?

People who say what if a lot but aren't dogmatic about the ideas the come up with. I really hate show man types or people who think being physically tough makes them better. I also dislike people who are overly passionate about ideas. I argue a lot and people might think I'm like that, but I'm really not because I'm usually arguing against what people are saying.

What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)? What do you think of daily chores?

I used to put nothing up on my walls for a long time. I didn't care what my room looked like. Now i like to put up paintings of things that I have connected a cool idea too. When I look at them they remind me of the idea. I hate daily chores but I appreciate them and wish I was more patient with them.

How do you behave around strangers?

Pretty respectfully, I just behave according to social norms even though I'm pretty awkward.

How do you react to conflict? What do you do if somebody insults or attacks you?

I attack back if they made some kind of argument that I think is wrong. If its an ad hominem I engage as little as possible. If someone physically attacked me id fight as dirty as possible in self defense - groin shots, eye gouging.

What is one common misconception that people have? Explain why it is wrong.

about what? anything? I can't really think of something since I barely talk to anyone.

What did you do last Friday?

    chilled in bed.

If you are doing a video you can stop here or choose from the rest of the questions as you like.
If you are answering in writing, please answer ALL questions.

    What is your biggest accomplishment?

My level of competence on the guitar.

    What is something you regret?

i don't really think about it

Who do you admire, and why?

kurt rosenwinkel because hes a badass at guitar

What's been on your mind? Has anything been worrying or concerning you? What problems have you encountered lately?

I've just been trying to sort my life out. Living with my parents is hard because they have no foresight and can't see where my job is heading. They argue with my about pointless crap and i just avoid them as much as possible.

What are your religious or spiritual beliefs and why do you hold them?

nothing really. I think about spiritual concepts all the time though. I just don't have any good reason to "believe" them.

What are your political beliefs, and why? To what extent do you care about politics?

I used to think about politics quite a bit. I agree with points on both sides but because I'm not an expert. I usually end up arguing against people for their politics beliefs instead of for my own. These days I don't care at all about politics. I look out for myself not society.

Would you ever be interested in starting a business? Why or why not? What role would you play in it? What kind of business would it be?

Yes I would, I have a lot of ideas about starting a music teaching practice already. It would be a lot of fun to test out my own ideas and see how they affect the students. I would be a teacher for my own practice and I would probably higher 1 or 2 other people. It would be for upper scale income people that wanted their kids to get a comprehensive education in music instead of just basic instrument lessons. It would be a more hands on and relaxed environment where they would get to try lots of different instruments and learn about lots of different musical styles. That's just the gist though.

I would also start a youtube music vlog type channel. I have tons of ideas written down for that but there's no point in writing them here.

What kind of work environment do you prefer? What do you look for in a job?

Relaxed and where i make my own rules. My job right now fits pretty well because i design my own curriculum. I also like my job because i get to actively work on my main skill as part of what i get paid for.

What is or was your favorite school subject and why?

    none of them

How do you approach responsibility? What do you tend to expect of others?

I'm pretty responsible. I expect a lot from others actually. Mostly at work though. I used to work with a lot of incompetent idiots at a restaurant i used to work at and it really bothered me.

Where did you go on your most recent vacation? What did you do there? How did you like it and why?

    im poor

What were you like as a kid? How have you changed since you were a child?

    wrote above

What was your high school experience like?

had a bunch of friends and we just smoked weed and goofed around a lot. I was never was that close to anyone though, like how i was when i was a kid or after high school.

Talk about a significant event from your life.

i don't know, to be honest i'm getting so bored of typing right now..

Do you like kids? Why or why not?

    depends on the kid

If you were to raise a child, what would be your main concerns, what measures would you take, and why?

    i wouldnt raise a child

Ever feel stuck in a rut? If yes, describe the causes and your reaction to it.

yes, in school when i felt like a bunch of useless information that had nothing to do with my goals was being shoved down my throat. both in high school and college after i got what i wanted out of it.

How do you see other people as a whole? What do you consider a prevalent social problem? Name one.

people are into moral one-up-manship and it's annoying. People don't actually care about being moral they care about being perceived as moral.

What do you do if you're not getting what you want? What approach do you use?

i use the approach that will get what i want

Are you comfortable taking leadership roles? In what areas? Why or why not?

yes, if im interested in the project. in school i just let other people lead while i slacked off.

How often do you get angry? What kinds of things make you angry?

not often at all. my parents make me pretty angry when they tell me what to do and try to control me. but thats about it. Also if i have to untangle wires or do some tedious physical or detailed task it can be frustrating for me.

What is the best thing that happened to you during the past week?

started watching house again and saw some pretty entertaining episodes

What is the worst thing that happened to you during the past week?

    yelled at by my parents

What is the purpose of life? What do you find personally meaningful in life?

the purpose of life is to distract yourself from questions like that, unless thinking about it is the distraction in itself. You can find anything meaningful, just get into a flow of what you like doing. It's hard sometimes but its the goal. Work toward something that you find entertaining/interesting.

What is the most interesting place you have been, and why?

on youtube/the internet, because you can see anything

How do you dress or manage your appearance?

i dress pretty decently id say, I went through a period of not caring about my appearance but I actually kind of like looking good. In a not standing out kind of way.

    Do you like surprises?

inconvenient surprises no. Surprises that are good for me or interesting, yes.

Is there anything else important about you that we should know?
    nah im done

Yeah, i'm in a pretty unstable place in life at the moment so my personality is probably pretty adaptive to my circumstance. Thanks for the advice and I'll check out that test.

You seem to be very complicated case. You appear introverted. You also appear intuitive. You don't talk about felling related stuff but your life occupation doesn't fit ILI or LII, but rather the one of IEI or EII. Your lifestyle fits the one of IEI, and the second guess would be EII.

Hmm, I didn't realize I wasn't talking about feeling related stuff. That may be because I am kind of disconnected with relationships and friendships at the moment. I have one experience that really stands out to me in terms of feeling in my life. Not that I don't use it at other times but this experience really stands out.

When I was about 13 or 14 I had a girlfriend. We were hanging out and this younger kid came up to me that I used to play soccer with at recess. He asked nicely if I wanted to kick the soccer ball around and my girlfriend flipped out on him out of nowhere. I don't remember the exact words she was saying but it was something like "get out of here, nobody wants to be friends with you, you're just a stupid little kid". After that he said nothing and walked away. I thought about it for a bit and decided that I needed to break up with my girlfriend and go up to the kid and apologize for what he had gone through. The whole situation just made me feel like shit and I just followed how I felt to resolve it.

Another "feeling related" thing about my life is that I have always idealized romantic relationships to the point of doing nothing about it because I was so nervous to do something. In the mean time a lot of girls would be into me and I would not care because I had idealized a certain person. I can't say I wasn't aware they were into me because some how I know now, but at the time it was like i didn't know. Even the girls I would idealize would be into me, I just couldn't be honest about how I felt. I think I have kind of gotten over this now, but i don't really date because i tell myself i'm focused on sorting my life out. Even if that might be an excuse, since I'm lazy half the time and don't actively pursue sorting my life out.

I'd say I have pretty deep feelings but even though that is true, I wish I could control them more because it seems like I can't. And my feelings seem like they don't work for me most of the time and my logical reasoning does. Feelings lead to bad outcomes and logic leads to good ones. This is true even though i might have a hard time diligently following principles because my impulses and emotions sway me.

    * I also have very particular musical tastes and artistic tastes that I think I use feeling to understand

Is there anything else important about you that we should know?
    nah im done
This is easily one of the most complicated questionnaires I've ever read

But I do think some clear things come across:

-You consistently mention preferring imagination to actual action and hands-on activities - clear intuition.
-You also have a nonchalant attitude towards others which tends to piss people off without your intending it: "Which to me seems so foreign because I don't care what other people think to the point of getting mad about it. I've always thought I was tactful but not everyone seems to think so."
-You have a very contradictory attitude when it comes to conflict: you describe yourself as easygoing yet also describe yourself as argumentative and impulsive, and flipped out at a seemingly minor incident (as a child, but still).

I think the most likely type is ILI; again this point:

"Usually my family getting mad at my opinions. Which to me seems so foreign because I don't care what other people think to the point of getting mad about it."

What I imagine is unexpected is the strong emotional reaction - very typical for Fe vulnerable - "why do they care so much?"

"I dislike that I can't say what I truly think around people without people thinking I'm being argumentative."
    ^very typical for Gamma NTs.

"to be honest i'm getting so bored of typing right now.."

again this shows that you tend to convey the "unfiltered truth"

You also mention competence as a value a few times (Te), and trying to obtain skills (some Ne also).

My sense is that your suggestive Se is still "dormant" or is something you aren't quite in touch with, since you tend to mention it in a negative light.

Another hypothesis is SLI, though it would contradict everything you've said about preferring mental activities.

    LII might also work.

lol yeah, thanks for reading the whole thing and responding. I agree with what you said but I'd like to clarify and add a little bit more detail. Hopefully it helps narrow a type down even more.

I'd say my main mode of operating is passively observing things (like youtube videos, a book or music) and letting my mind drift off in the process. So yes, imagination over hands on. But i like to do hands on stuff if its fun and not a chore. Like video games, skateboarding, doing martial arts, playing soccer etc. My favorite video game is even rocket league, which seems very extraverted sensing to me. I'm in that mode less often though.

Next think is about the conflict stuff. I'd say I have a nonchalant attitude around people i've known for a while. But around strangers or coworkers/employers I am actually very careful with my words.

I actually am very easygoing I just say what I think. Maybe we are thinking of different things for the word "easygoing". I rarely impose my will on other people. I just say what seems reasonable to me at the time. I'm not trying to insult anyone (I actually never do this) and I'm also not saying im 100% right about what I'm saying. I don't care if someone argues back, I just get confused and frustrated when people get on their moral high horse and start getting explosive instead of just discussing like a normal person. I do have a bad habit of criticizing or challenging what people say too much though, and I can see how it might be annoying in the wrong circumstances. For me it just seems like the most naturally entertaining way to approach a discussion though.

I have a good social persona though so i can make friends pretty easily in one on one conversations. I'm terrible at rousing groups though. I'm good at identifying the types of people who will react negatively to my inner thoughts and I avoid them. I can't avoid my family though.

I wouldn't say i flipped out over that incident with my girlfriend. It just felt really uncomfortable to me that she could do that. I didn't want to spend time with her anymore. I also felt bad for my friend.

Also when i say I am impulsive I mean binging on sensual pleasures or procrastinating by being on the internet. The only people I freak out at are my parents which i think is pretty normal. My mom is completely impenetrable to reasoning and expects everyone to bend to her will and its just not the way my mind works.

Thanks again for the response, i think i might post a short video eventually so people can do visual typing on me

also, i'm pretty sure my sister is an ENFj so i don't know if i react negatively to Fe in itself. Sometimes it seems cringy to me but I'd say I appreciate her warmth and warm people in general. My sister is good at understanding how I approach life. I think my mom is ESFj and she has the same warmth but she is completely domineering and we get explosive with each other. I'm basing this off their test results and personal experience so i could be wrong.

*my mom also asks me dumb questions about the details of my day. My sister asks me interesting questions like what my worldview is and where my life is going.
