Default Balance of ISTp's introversion with curiosity for surrounding world

I'm confused about ISTp's and extroversion.

Extroverts are interested in what is happening around them.

However, for the ISTp, the strongest element of their type is an inexhaustible curiosity towards the phenomena of the surrounding world.

Can you help me to clarify this issue. Thanks.

Don't forget that you also have a secondary extroverted function which for ISTP is extroverted thinking. Seems a bit difficult to imagine anyone being completely cut-off from the outside world. Do not INTJs have interests in learning about the external world also but perhaps from a more theoretical perspective?

What distinguishes an ISTp from an extrovert type?

Thats actually a good question. Their inner perception of external phenomena is what distuinguishes them from the direct contact relation towards those phenomena an ESTP has. The thing with contraries is that they focus on the exact same aspect of reality, but what one exteriorizes, the other interiorizes. ESTPs and ISTPs focus on the same sensory aspects of phenomena, but ISTPs draw the energy given by these phenomena inward, while ESTPs do not need to draw inward, but can directly charge towards whats happening around them.

Can't ISTp's mistake their own selves to be of an extrovert type?

The thing is I did a 4 question test on someone (ISTp) who didn't appear extroverted at all, however, he chose E over I in typing himself. I showed him the ISTp desription which he said described him perfectly.

Any introvert can mistake themselves as an extrovert, or can be msitaken for an extravert. Appearences mean nothing as far as E/I is concerned.

I'm saying in particular to ISTps.

I am INTj and know for sure that I'm not extraverted. I also don't think people would think I am extraverted if they meet me in person.

An off-topic question that may or may not provide some insight:

Has anyone ever met an extraverted INTp?

If I am INTp I am extraverted, but I have met a few real INTps and I am not totally like them, so I doubt I am an extraverted INTp and moreso ENTp.

I can act pretty extreverted, when Im in a classroom and I can freely use . I can also be pretty extraverted when im in a group of friends or at a party or some social gathering. That all really depends on my mood, its not something consistent.

'Deep thinker is an introvert' is a stereotype, considering the amount of great intellectuals amongst ENTPs.

    I see.Ok.

But the thats not the point, the point is that you cant always tell someone's E vs I by their behavior.

If this person really wants to know their type, the answer will come in time. Perhaps they should learn more about the differences between E and I and that will help them decide.

That's what I said on the last page:

I don't understand why some of you answer this question. Are you [cone] not being sarcastic? If the statement not contradictory..?

My husband is an ISTP and although he is a very private and independent person, he does display some extraverted behavior.

For instance, he knows all of our neighbor’s names and occupations and often chats with them and assists them with household repairs. (I don't know them or talk to them despite having lived in the neighborhood 5 years.)

Also, when we travel, I usually like to read alone in the hotel room in the evenings, but my husband likes to find a pub and chat with the locals.

Sometimes I wonder if he hasn't taken on some extraverted traits because someone in our family has to do it and it seems to be more difficult for me than him. He is less self-conscious than I am.

From the INTp description: "Although INTps are introverts, some of them may behave in a very extroverted manner."

I was hesitant at first to word the question that way. What I should have asked was, "Has anyone ever met an INTp who acted as though he was extraverted?"

    Sorry for the confusion.

I don't know that extoverted is the right word to use. I think of them more as sociable-introverts. I think that when INTPs are more sociable it has something to do with their hidden agenda, Fi, and maybe even the dual-seeking Se.

What does Fi have to do with seeming more "extroverted"? Like beetle said, they stop and chat with neighbors and people working at stores. It's Introverted Feeling because it comes from inside... caring, showing love, etc. It's the reason why ESFPs are usually more loud and obnoxious than ESTPs. I don't know why people often confuse talking with extroversion.

So I think these more sociable-INTPs have just overcome their fear of , ignore it, and start living their lives the way they want without people bringing them down.

    Your Introverted-acting INTp friend,

    Cone
There are many who were convinced I was extraverted because I can at times be very social.
Or maybe that just means I'm an INTJ?
