The decisive thing is not the reality of the object, but the reality of the subjective factor, i.e. the primordial images, which in their totality represent a psychic mirror-world. It is a mirror, however, with the peculiar capacity of representing the present contents of consciousness not in their known and customary form but in a certain sense sub specie aeternitatis, somewhat as a million-year old consciousness might see them.

My favorite:
And my second favorite:
Honorary mentions, which are honestly better songs but have less nostalgic emotional feels for me:
Two stark opposites in a row.
The Batman theme is probably rather Gamma, while the Animal Crossing one is rather Alpha.
^^^ strong agree with portals end music ( I legit cried at it when i got to the end )
^ standin for all the intro themes and dramatic moment ingame music in the original tomb raiders.

Black & White had awesome music, especially the second video you linked.
I liked drowning them. I was an evil merciless god of sadistic torment.

I'm sticking to these retro games
Millenium 2.2 for Amiga 500 had its music from Mahlers 5:th symphony. I just recently learned that. No wonder it was so haunting

I usually don't jam out to video music, but when I do I make sure it's either adventurous, melancholic, or some combination of the two.

I like many more than these two examples, but I think people get the point.

I consider myself an expert when it comes to game soundtracks, too many I want to post.
Well there's not much that can compete with FF but I think this is at the top:
