I don't think that Korean Pop-Stars who have very white/light skin or who use these filtres has anything to do with racism/white-washing. The love for white/light skin has always existed in Asia, just like back in Europe before the 'tan'-trend appeared. White people just happen to have light skin, which is considered beautiful in many Asian countries. This beauty ideal has actually developed independently. Also his natural skin tone is still very light and a white person could still have the same 'shade'.
The trend with the big eyes/high noses could much rather be related to an "inferiority"-complex and racism. Many Japanese people I met when traveling to Japan were 'envious' of European features like high noses. Plastic surgery in Korea to get a double-eyelid and a high nose bridge seem to be very popular. Which I thought was a shame, since their featurs appear just as nice and 'different' to foreigners.

Small correction: It's classist colorism which is a subcategory of racism, tanned people were associated with lower farmer classes in ancient Korea. Hence white skin is preferred. Influences from the West don't help as you say, Japan & plastic surgery is an excellent example. I think it's a shame as well, literally it's shame. Diversity is erased. Meanwhile, Koreans appropriate a lot from black culture like cornrows and grills. Endless cycle.

Yeah, 4-envy, it's really beautiful. Natural black hair on Jimin is best though, really luscious.



Bleaching really damages the hair or has unintended color results, especially with extremely light tones. I always wonder how they get the idols perfectly colored, Asian hair tends to be thicker and more difficult to get through. Although, studio magic and Photoshop are doing their best sometimes, while IRL it's like straw and split.
