    Default thehotelambush questionnaire

    Tell me about yourself.
I'm currently in college and I play drums and guitar in my free time. I typically hang out with my friends on the weekend, and I'm working a couple of jobs. I'm a Marketing intern and I help my dad with his start-up when I have free time. He's pretty lenient with my work/school schedule. I'm a son and a brother to a younger sister and younger brother. I meditate ~30 minutes a day because it helps with anxiety and over-thinking. I started this around two years ago because of Sam Harris' book "Spirituality Without Religion". I've never been interested in religion for it's group purposes, however I do like researching about the concepts behind them. If I did have a religion to follow, it would most likely be Buddhism. Siddhartha Gautama's 'success' story is inspiring and I've found a lot of his teachings, or 'words of wisdom' to ring true for me.

What do you study or do for a living? How did you come to do that? What do you like or dislike about it?
I study Marketing and I do a bunch of different things. I write blog posts, create newsletters, keep up to date with the company's social media websites, attend meetings and seminars, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I really enjoy it! I would like to move more into the psychology realm of Marketing, but I can still apply psychology related things to what I'm doing as a profession. I enjoy helping people, and like getting to the core of what makes a person tick. However, I wouldn't say I'm pushy and would like to think I'm not intrusive.

What are your values, and why?
Don't steal, don't kill, don't put another person in danger, things like that. I value my friends and family, as well as my education. I know every decision I make comes back around at some point, or affects another person. The first couple of things I've listed have become 'common sense' for me because my mom made sure I knew these things. The last few things are things that I have learned throughout life.

What else do you do on a daily basis? What are your interests and hobbies? Why do you do them?
I study, play guitar, and do what needs to be done. I enjoy listening to music, as it's been present throughout my life. I like working out, as it gives me a sense of maintaining my health.

Describe your relations with family and friends. What do you like and dislike about them?
My relationship with my dad is really good. I would say out of everyone in my family he has been the main man. He provides me with a sense of grounding and knows how to carve out the path in front of me. I'm close with my mom as well, however I've kind of grown apart from her as I grow up. I'm not too close with my brother or sister though. My relationships with my friends are great as well. I've had a couple of long-time friends but a lot of acquaintances from class/other life activities that come and go.

What do you look for in friends? In romantic relationships?
I look for people who share common interests and people I know will be in my life going forward. In romantic relationships, I look for someone who inspires me. I also like people who think differently and can challenge me in changing my point of view on life. Sort of in a 'friendly debate' way.

What conflicts have you encountered recently with other people? Why did they happen? Which kinds seem to happen on a regular basis?
I don't think I've been in conflict, or at least I can't remember a time that I've had major conflict.

How would your friends describe you?
They would describe me as silly, calm & collected, but a bit 'out-there' in my imagination. Some people enjoy it and others don't, but that's okay.

What do people generally see as your strengths? What do you like about yourself?
I've been told that I'm patient and accepting, but a little too accepting at times. I like that I'm adaptive and I feel I genuinely care about everyone I talk to.

What are your weaknesses? What criticism do you often face from others? What do you dislike about yourself?
Two of the biggest complaints I've gotten from people, both with friends and in romantic relationships, have been that I don't take control and I'm inefficient. I'd agree with these people, as these are the two areas I feel most uncertain in. I don't like that I'm too accepting of others because I've been pushed around and taken advantage of. I've learned how to 'pick and choose my battles', meaning I know when people can tell me or not tell me to do something.

In what areas of life can you manage well on your own? In what areas of your life would you like help?
I can manage doing things on time, although I do have a tendency to procrastinate. For example, we're heading to Las Vegas tomorrow and I still haven't packed yet... I think I need help with organizing, as well as just general decision making. My friends rag on me for not being able to make decisions but at the same time they make fun of me for being indecisive. I've pointed this out and we had a little bit of an argument. Making sure that I'm on the right track to where I want to be would be a plus as well.

What things do you find to be a chore? What things do you enjoy more than others?
Organizing, making plans, being proactive/productive. I like making and listening to music, as well as visualizing scenarios that have happened in my life, or scenarios that go along to music or during meditation. Mental imagery has come easy to me, as my mind has a tendency to 'fall down the rabbit hole'. This is also a reason for my meditation practices; staying present and grounded have not come easy to me. I've been described as a 'head in the clouds' kind of guy, but I'm working on it the best I can.

What goals, aspirations, or plans do you have for the future? How did you come to have them?
I want to figure out myself and my purpose in life. I would like to have a well-paying job that I, at least, somewhat enjoy. I want to make enough money so I can provide myself and my family. I want to have two kids, but of course that's a decision that lies in the hands of my future wife. One thing is for certain, I want to live in one place until my kids have graduated high school. I moved with my family at a crucial moment in growing up that had a big impact on me, for better or worse. I want my kids to grow up with their childhood friends and not have to deal with moving to a different place and going through the same experience I did.

If you had enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life without working, what would you do with your time?
I would travel to different areas of the world with friends and/or family. I think it would be fun to explore and make the most out of my life. I would also donate and be apart of a charity I care about.

What traits do you find endearing that others might dislike? What traits are considered positive/neutral by others but tend to annoy you?
I like people who can think for themselves and not succumb to authority; rebellious, in a way. I like people with strength and the self-confidence to stand on their own. I dislike people who only care about themselves and don't get along with others.

What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)? What do you think of daily chores?
I don't really pay attention to this sort of thing. I think the most I do to enhance my environment is have a couple of decorations in my room, as well as playing music that I like. I don't like chores and I can stand living in a messy room for days without cleaning up until I've had enough. My shoes, shirts, etc. can be found lying on the floor all the time. I just don't care for cleaning up until I have the free time and more important matters are taken care of.

How do you behave around strangers?
I like to think I'm friendly and engaging. I don't normally initiate conversations but I love when people initiate conversations with me. At this point, I can be quite talkative and curious about them but I need someone to take the first step.

How do you react to conflict? What do you do if somebody insults or attacks you?
I can fight back and be quipy with them. I normally don't take it personally, and I have a hard time reacting on the spot. I would end up saying something stupid, so I tend to just keep my mouth shut or talk through the issue.

What is one common misconception that people have? Explain why it is wrong.
That I'm unintelligent. I think I'm very smart, but it's not 'book-smart'. I'm really not that good at school but I can talk for days about philosophy, life, and all the funny quirks that the universe has. I think I'm dumb in the regular sense of intelligence but I can be quite smart in a whole 'nother way.

What did you do last Friday?
I want out to a restaurant and bar with a few friends to get some food and drinks.

    Additional questions are welcome!

Have you considered SEI? You remind me of the ones I know.

I consider Buddhism to be closest to alpha values. Though that depends on what branch you follow.

I considered SEI a long time ago, but I haven't given it too much thought lately. I don't really follow a particular branch either. My meditation 'mentor' has taught me a lot about Buddhism and the schools of thought behind them, so I understand them, but I don't necessarily follow one.

I'd say SEI. I'm getting the sense that you are more of a "feel good" type of person who likes to hang out with friends and just have fun in a normal and harmonious enviorement, rather then the darker more convoluted IEI.

My Chinese family is Buddhist and none of the followers are/were Alphas. Although I sort of get what you mean I guess by some Western person just picking it up because Eastern mysticism gives them a 12" hard on, yeah I could see alphas being more likely to pick it up, like anime. IEIs just as much too though, IME.

@Muddy not all IEIs are emo wrist slitters. Some need to survive, at least long enough to get their "chakras opened up" by SLE.

I think NFs are the most likely be into Buddhism... Anyway, it's a religion that can appeal to pretty much anyone.

I'm not really in the mood for arguing right now. All I'm going to say for right now is that I don't see a whole lot in favor of Ni over Si, other then buddism thing which be argued to be in favor of Si just as much as Ni. If you see anything else here that points towards IEI over SEI please point it out.

Agree with @niffer. Se and especially Te seem to be the lacking and requested parts. Fi is balancing this, and Ni is the ever present "out-there" imagination that's got your life timeline mapped out. Ip matches up. The romantic partner is sort of Ne ego, but the qualities you like in others are base - rebellious, first step, in charge, cuts procrastrination short and just acts, resilient, organizer/orchestrator of forces.

Pop culture has created an Ni mystique around Buddhism, but in reality it is very Si with some Ti thrown in, but as I mentioned before, different sects will vary on this.

Result>process. Nothing about his survey suggest's he's grounded like a sensor, especially an Si lead at all. Except for some very "basic" Si things like this

"I study, play guitar, and do what needs to be done. I enjoy listening to music, as it's been present throughout my life. I like working out, as it gives me a sense of maintaining my health."

    Also:

"What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)? What do you think of daily chores?
I don't really pay attention to this sort of thing. I think the most I do to enhance my environment is have a couple of decorations in my room, as well as playing music that I like. This doesn't sound like an alpha sensor approach to Si to me at all whatsoever. But... I can actually relate a lot LOL. That is, I could totally see myself living and dealing with someone like this. There's actually pretty much nothing alpha-like about his description except for the feel gooding and hanging out with friends, which is typical enough for any healthy person actually, and especially any balanced Fe ego IMO.

"In reality". Not to derail but exactly what do you find Si about Buddhism besides like Zen Buddhism (which is Ni = Si seemingly)??

I wouldn't attribute any IE or function to a religion, instead I would look for why the person gravitates towards the religion. Like I said though, I'm not interested in the religion part of it but more pulling things I find interesting from Buddhism (and other religions too), just for the sake of learning about them. I'm aware of the whole 'Buddhism-mystical' stigma, but that's not the reason why I like it. I find I can relate to it a lot more than other religions. I think my mom took a very Buddhist stance towards raising me and my brother & sister.

I find it easier to get along with Se-Egos. Most of my friends are, and if they aren't, they're strong Si. I find that Ne-Egos can drain my energy fairly quickly and I would much rather prefer activities where my Se friends take the lead and teach me something different (gun range, exercising, dancing, things along those lines.)

Anyway. I need to say, yes there is a certain nature/harmony factor to Buddhism, but the principles that it revolves around are pure Ni. Taoism is also extremely Ni. If you were to choose a rational IE to go with it, I agree that there'd be some Ti thrown in there too. If you want to get into a more Si Eastern philosophy, it would be Confucianism. Extremely curious as to what on earth @Muddy @Syynth and possibly others think the Si > Ni comes from. I will have you know that I grew up with Buddhism, having been baptized as a child in a Buddhist temple and going to the temple growing up, my dead family members buried by Buddhist ritual etc. Almost all religion has some ritualistic features which could be considered Si, but the point of Buddhism is like anti-sensory lol. It's like to transcend everything and make as little physical impact as possible. I guess you could see that part as like Se ignoring or devaluing in a sense, but that's a little bit missing the point. If I had to give Buddhism a type, I'd make it some kind of cross between an LII (who is an intuitive with demonstrative -Ni -- potentially even more Ni than an IEI) and an IEI. I could see a lot of SEIs and LSIs as Buddhist monks too but it's kind of the more superficial side of Buddhism, not the heart of it.

Buddha's original teachings - Ni temporal detachment and ego sacrifice.
Zen and Tao - Si harmony and bodily relaxation.

@passenger is on the Ni side there. Patience, acceptance. Another example, meditation is defined as a schedule (!) in the first question. It's for emotional purpose, not for regulating one's physical flow within the environment. The first thing pass said to me in the visitor messages about meditation is - I take the liberty to use these here:

A little bit. I've been meditating for 2 years now, 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes at night, almost every day unless I have something going on. I'm not into Chakras and that sort of thing, but I used to be. I know a psychic who is EIE and has helped me through a lot of spiritual things; Kundalini, for example.
Come on, that's - and even an EIE teacher! Kundalini and chakras, more inuitive concepts. No Si base would talk about having snake energies and channel points in their spine and would accept rituals around that. Carl Jung (IEI!!) was into all of that stuff as well. As a comparison, Taoist and Zen teachers tell you to sit and observe your body's state. From breath to blood circulation to every tingle in a limb. Adopting certain positions that adjust to comfort and stillness. Nothing symbolic, just blatant physical realism.

    Astral bodies/projection was another subject
    Ditto!

Not really. I've been interested in Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism as concepts for a little while though.
Those are all centered around archetypes and symbols, and collective practices (Beta). Again he talks about when he learned it and for how long.

@Chae lol, I think the Laozi guy who developed Taoism might actually be SLI (based off of VI-ing ancient pantings of him LOL jk) from the way he writes. he and the concepts are like the ultimate manifestation of Ip.

Taoist ethics vary depending on the particular school, but in general tend to emphasize wu wei (effortless action), "naturalness", simplicity, spontaneity, and the Three Treasures: 慈 "compassion", 儉 "frugality", and 不敢為天下先 "humility",

The reasons for meditation point to IEI over SEI. SEIs don't really have trouble being physically grounded, they're constantly aware of their bodily sensations. Rich mental imagery sounds like Ni base and I think meditation is pretty common for IEIs

Si probably doesn't really need meditation, they have a good grip on everything related to it (calm- and stillness, physical integrity, flow state) already. Doesn't mean they don't meditate by default but the benefits and appeals are relatively small for them contrasted to Ni egos, who are the ones who actually invented the practice - which speaks for itself.

I can't really speak for other Si base types, but I always felt kind of stupid trying to meditate. I'd get into a pose and then get uncomfortable after awhile and shift position and eventually get annoyed by the whole thing. I think yoga may be a little better for me because it trains flexibility and balance, but I'm pretty relaxed regardless of whether or not I do yoga

    Ditto, perfect example ^^^
It's the same for my - my constant imaginative "sparks" are overbrimming and distanced from reality all the time, if I sit down it just gets more intense. So the mental aspect of meditation (experiencing your mind's flow) is already fulfilled, don't need to get into a stance to have it. Yoga is waaaaay better, it's dynamic and has great variety. Ni is more monotonous. It doesn't feel the need to discharge like Si or Ne, an IEI just gets internally still and patient. I think @passenger wouldn't say he'd get uncomfortable like you, he just sits and lets the time pass which is Ni.

I agree. It doesn't get monotonous for me at all; I love it. I kind of just bury deep into my mind and see what is lying around; I get the same amount of imagery coming to me when I am awake and going about my life, but to be sitting still and paying full attention to them provides me with some deep introspection that I couldn't have otherwise.

Yep, that's how intuitive leads go about their business, and how Ni picks its subjective "corner" and introspection to the mind in particular. Solid IEI.
