Spiralizers

Does anyone use this? I have been looking at these awhile but I don't want gadgets around I am not going to use. I avoid pasta, bread and other carbs as much much as possible, so, spaghetti for me is sometimes just the sauce and a meatball or two! I make spaghetti pie with spaghetti squash sometimes - in fact I bake a spaghetti squash pretty often (in rings). But I have been wanting some variety in my veggies recipes. So yesterday at the produce department of the health food store I saw this:

This was pricey, but better to buy this than a spiralizer and only use it once. So I tried it last night for our dinner. I loved it! The zucchini does not have the squash taste, which is mild with spaghetti squash, but, its still there, and its distinctive, so I don't want it to be my only pasta substitution. I did a quick hot stir fry of garlic and onions in olive oil and then the zucchini for 3-4 minutes. I tossed that right into in a bit of ricotta and parmesan before topping it with sauce and meatballs. Great meal! And guilt free.

Now I want a spiralizer. I would use it several times a month for sure. I'm going to order one. Probably the OXO.

I've been thinking about getting one for awhile, but I already put more time into food prep and cooking than I want to. Come back and let us know how fast/easy it is to use?

Those look so much fun Eliza. I'm looking into copper cookware for my sister currently (the one that's advertised as nonstick).

I have one. The one that's in the picture you posted. It's super fast to use. You can spiralize a whole zucchini and make a big bowl of zucchini noodles in like 3 minutes or less.

I am going to give it away though unless it turns out that I can use it for something other than zucchini, but it's unly because I found out from it that I'm actually unfortunately allergic to eating huge amounts of raw zucchini.

I will! I might buy it next week at earliest, next month at latest... Bought the robo-vacuum today and have to put the breaks on a bit...

Wow. Allergic to raw zucchini? I have not heard of that! How did you discover it?? I did not eat it raw, but I sauteed it - briefly.

I love copper cookware but I have never felt ready to make the committment to care in order to have it look so wonderful. So its stainless for me because you can scrub it.

I have not seen the non-stick... I avoid non-stick coatings myself... is it coated?

I discovered it when my mouth went numb after eating a lot of it for a few days in a row.

I use this a lot for chopping onions and other veggies. Mine is some other brand and I have used it awhile. There are several brands of these and I think they are an essential kitchen gadget! Sometimes you can find them discounted at TJMax or Marshalls.

You don't have to make the copper all shinny by polishing it. In some regions of the world they cook on it and let the patina develop to a dark hue which happens the more you cook with it so the care is the same as stainless steel

I have one. I've used it on zucchini and on potatoes (for curly fries) It's really fast and simple, so yes, if you'll use it, get one. Sometimes I forget I have mine, then I remember and use it and wonder why I haven't used it more.

Niffer are you in this country? I would send you a mailing label all filled out, plus cash for USPS mailing box, plus extra for your trouble, and I'd still save on the $40 new price at Amazon. Its plastic so it should not need any extra cushioning to mail it. I do not need the original box.

I ordered my OXO spiralizer today. At almost $40 it was a little a little guilt inducing but I will eat plenty of spiralized fresh zucchini this summer and reduce my guilt.

According to this MBTI list, I am in the right zone for giving myself gifts - The top 3 listed there are spot on for me. (What do you think, @Cchae?) (I bought a robot vacuum a couple months ago and I am thrilled with our little house-helper).
