according to the Abrahamic religions, there is merit in belief (that you go to a place that is supposed to be nice), and it is emphasized that the virtuous believe in God and follow its teachings, but it does not actually say how belief in God is actually a virtue.

(In the Old Testament, it says "The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.": fool in this sense means an immoral person, rather than what is meant in modern usage).

Idk about a book. All I know is, I only care about God if he shows the fuq up and pours @handjob and me a bubble bath so we can have lots of fun. Until then, I think he's a mental projection of human powerlessness and ignorance. Maybe he's shy but given that he's as old as everything, baby boy might as well come around. Y'all indoctrinated by some bearded guys who threw their chapters together to create some gay fanfiction. On the other hand, though... that's actually understandable

My LSE friend and I were militant atheist's from a very young age. I remember getting dragged to church by my grandmother and school at about age 5 and I didn't believe it then. I'm no longer militant at all, but I've argued with a few pastors when younger and they didn't like it I'll tell you that. I think for me I can see easily the emotional reasons why people would believe in a god. I can also see how people get fixed into believing something and ignore evidence to the contrary. Religious doctrine just seems to obviously written by humans to me. I see too many flaws with religion it would be impossible for me to believe short of multiple religious experiences.

If there are multiple religions all believing in different things, what makes you so sure you're the right one? Doesn't it seem suspicious that humans seem to have a tendency to invent religions?
How can Adam and Eve have existed when there is a clear evolutionary trail. You can see it in bones, you can see it in our DNA. Why do we have unnecessary organs like the appendix / tailbone etc.
If Gay people are apparently so bad - why did god let them exist? Of course many religions are now accepting gay people because in this day and age they could be cancelled and defunded eventually (which is good). Animals engage in homosexual behavior.
Why are some religious ideas so outdated if they are the word of god? (don't eat shellfish etc, don't touch women on their periods, wearing mixed fabrics, slaves are obligated to obey you etc). If some of that is horse shit, haven't you thought to yourself that maybe all of it is horseshit?
Why would god punish me for all eternity in hell for not believing in him? Isn't he supposed to be a good guy? Id never do that to anyone. It seems much more plausible that this was a tool of fear to make people believe without questioning.
Isn't it a bit easier for the people who met Jesus to believe in him than it would be for me to believe in him? He hasn't been here for thousands of years. Why doesn't he return?
What about violence done in the name of religion - Do you seriously believe Allah wants to kill his own creation by blowing yourself up?

I could go on and on, it still clearly gets under my skin when I think about it..

Go browse the communist/socialist literature. Eventually you'll find one. There were enough communists that you can probably find a type of each.

An optimist - does not get discouraged under any circumstances. Life upheavals and stressful events only toughen him and make more confident. He likes to laugh and entertain people. Enters contact with someone by involving him with a humorous remark. His humor is often sly and contain hints and double meanings. Easily enters into arguments and bets, especially if he is challenged. When arguing his points is often ironic, ridicules the views of his opponent. His irritability and hot temper may be unpleasant to others. However, he himself is not perceptive of this and believes that he is simply exchanging opinions.

Like I'd love to read a book that would illustrate the Delta quadra arguments for being an atheist, by someone who actually gave a fuck to write such a manifesto.
A messy thread, but I'd love to hear your recommendations
I'm a Delta atheist. I think. Anyway. I just go by what I see. I don't see any gods floating around anywhere so why would I believe it? I see trees and grass. Stuff like that. So I say they exist. I can see that stuff happens and it seems like anything within the laws of physics can happen. That's about all there is to it.

I don't get too much into philosophy. You won't find a host of arguments from me with a bunch of memorized evidence.

I wanted to add a public celebrity example: Daniel Radcliffe, EII.

    Here's what he's said:

Well, it depends on where these deltas were born, 'cause they're very traditional types, at least according to theory

If they were born in an atheist nation (if that exists) then I can definitely see most of them being such.

I myself was an atheist for an entire year, but then I realized that this is not a really simple topic to make a sure conclusion. So right now I prefer to assume there's a higher intelligence behind the universe, especially after reading about history and studying the life of many intelligent people.
Sometimes you don't have motivation because you lack purpose.
Sometimes you don't have purpose, because you lack self-knowledge
Sometimes you don't have self-knowledge because you lack love
Sometimes you don't have love because you lack self-love
Sometimes you don't have self-love because you lack guess what? Ask Gulenko!!
