ESE seems clear.
Describe yourself.
Really the toughest question…but I’m a woman trying to improve myself. This brought me to Socionics.
What do you study or do for a living? How did you come to do that? What do you like or dislike about it?
I work in the Education field and enjoy the constant interaction with others, talking, and keeping busy.
---extrovert
If I don’t absolutely love what I do or feel passionate about it I can’t do it.If I spend my day at a desk, or doing data entry I will get bored. I dislike any highly detailed or admin type work. I can’t work in a cube or in a small office setting. I like a lot of freedom to move around and not be restricted. I enjoy giving presentations and leading groups.
---extrovert probably
I briefly studied health sciences but my grades were not strong enough in the sciences to continue even though I wanted to. The arts and humanities came very easily to me. Not doing well in my biology courses was a particularly painful and stressful time in my life when I realized I need to switch majors.
---Possible ethics > logic
What are your values, and why?
I feel very strongly about what I feel. I am hesitant to write about values for some reason mostly that they feel so personal.
I will touch lightly on them- I believe in pacifism, vegetarianism, peace. Personality wise I think being authentic and true to who you are is important. It is important to me to work for an organization that is in line with my values and does work that makes some type of meaningful contribution to the world. Non-profit work is important to me.
---Strong Fi
What else do you do on a daily basis? What are your interests and hobbies? Why do you do them?
I like to run errands. That must sound weird, right? Perhaps what I mean is that I like to be busy either at home or work. At home I am usually busy re-arranging rooms and decor. I love to paint and decorate and am never done a household project. I really enjoy cooking savory meals and baking. I like the feeling of “warmth” it creates in a home. It is as if the home and people in it feel loved and cared for if I am cooking everyday.
--Bolded suggests strong and valued Si. Feeling of warmth and people being loved and cared for- Fe+Si
Shopping is also an enjoyable activity. I love the grocery store, shopping for clothing, furniture, gifts, etc. I think I am a smart consumer and know how to shop well and what is a quality purchase.
I don’t like to exercise regularly- but I make myself so I guess I enjoy it in some way. I do make time for beauty and health related treatments, and enjoy them.
--Valued Si perhaps
Also I really enjoy reading. About socionics, the news, or non-fiction books I will spend 1-3 hours or so a day reading in the evening. Quietly…it’s a nice way to end the busy day.
Describe your relations with family and friends. What do you like and dislike about them?
Friends and family are good. They sometimes offend me accidentally. I don’t say anything about it. I am quite sensitive and read too much into some comments.
---Ethical > logical. Possible alpha SF- tendency to be nonconfrontational to keep peace.
Ultimately I like having close relationships where I can be who I am and be sincere and myself and I get that from close friends and family.
What do you look for in friends? In romantic relationships?
I look for close friendships with someone who wants to talk a lot and spend time going to different types of restaurants and on little adventures. One of my best friends and I are constantly trying new Thai restaurants all over the city. I also like friends who want to cook/bake together.
---Ne/Si
In romantic relationships (as much as I don’t want to admit it) I do like someone who can care for a lot of little detailed things for me, and help manage finances.
--Weak Te, possibly suggestive
Someone who provides some structure, logic, stability but is not too controlling. The LSI I am with does this.
--This could be Ti suggestive
What conflicts have you encountered recently with other people? Why did they happen? Which kinds seem to happen on a regular basis?
The majority of my conflicts are because someone was insensitive and offended me. Someone will say something that is insensitive or do something that offends me. I just pretty much deal with it and keep quiet. For the most part I try to avoid conflicts and confrontations, but if it is a long term issue I will say something and try to keep calm but find it difficult to once I have “brewed” for so long.
---More typical of alpha SF
How would your friends describe you?
My friends would say I am optimistic, loving, warm, cheerful, distracted, and probably energetic.
--High Fe, extraverted, likely Fe lead
What do people generally see as your strengths? What do you like about yourself?
People would say that I am very kind, warm and thoughtful. That I am a nice person.
What I like about myself? That I care a tremendous amount about animals.
--Strong ethics
I am determined to “do the right thing”- I like this about myself.
--What do you consider the ‘the right thing’? I’m just asking because many types can respond this way but the ‘right thing’ means something different depending on type.
What are your weaknesses? What criticism do you often face from others? What do you dislike about yourself?
While I am not sure if it is obvious to everyone I interact with that I am a perfectionist. I can be serious and hyper-focused or intense when I am working on something very important to me. I wish I could be more relaxed and “go with the flow”. But I’m not-there is an intensity there.
--Rational type likely.
Other people have commented that I am easily distracted and can have trouble concentratingI am also very sensitive and am easily offended (although I am really working on this one).
In what areas of life can you manage well on your own? In what areas of your life would you like help?
I’m very poor at planning for the future..its just I can't envision the future...I can't see it arriving. I just do what I enjoy without consideration of long-term consequences. A partner who is good at planning, saving, can keep their emotions in check is very helpful to me.
--Ni vulnerable, overpowered Fe.
I am very good at eating healthily, and taking care of myself physically.
--Strong, valued Si
What things do you find to be a chore? What things do you enjoy more than others?
Chore: paying bills, dusting, anything related to cars, gardening, financial planning, HVAC stuff, shoveling, snow stuff, changing air vent filters.
Enjoy: grocery shopping, decorating, baking, cooking, caring for my dog, buying gifts, holiday celebrations, beauty/health care stuff, crafts, art, clay making, organizing closets.
What goals, aspirations, or plans do you have for the future? How did you come to have them?
I want to continue in my graduate studies. I like to learn, and be a part of a cohort or academic community. I like hearing ideas and sharing knowledge, and inspiring others and being engaged and inspired by interesting content. I love learning.
--Bolded- Fe/Ne valuing?
If you had enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life without working, what would you do with your time?
My day would be identical to how it currently is. This is because my work is truly a passion for me. I love working. I don’t plan to “retire” in the traditional sense. Firstly I would be lonely and bored! Secondly, I would feel like I was not contributing to society.
What traits do you find endearing that others might dislike? What traits are considered positive/neutral by others but tend to annoy you?
I enjoy calm and quiet individuals. I also enjoy “grumpy” or stoic people who can control their emotions.
Energetic types annoy me…its like just too much energy in one space. I turn into a quiet introvert when they are around.
What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)? What do you think of daily chores?
My favorite question!
I don’t mind chores. I don’t like them daily but I like organizing my home and closet keeping it neat and comfortable. In regards to beautifying-that is a priority. I want the space I live in to look beautiful and I will paint, decorate, clean and shop to get everything I need to create a lovely, calm, unique and beautiful space.
To me a home is an expression of the people who live there. Each item and piece of furniture I pick thoughtfully and with care. Is it good quality? Unique? Is it beautiful? Is there a sense of harmony and flow from one room to the next? Do the bedrooms have a soft relaxing quality to them? I love big fluffy white comforts, cozy poster beds, and pretty art work. My space has the ability to really impact my mood. Oh and the kitchen...it needs lavender and rosemary plants and lots of cookbooks.
My LSI got me a label maker as a gift…I love it! It helps me organize all my craft stuff and household stuff.
---Si creative!! Also you like the label maker, maybe Ti dual seeking.
How do you behave around strangers?
I’m fairly quiet as I am trying to figure them out and how to proceed. I love my close friends and family though and am chatty with them.
How do you react to conflict? What do you do if somebody insults or attacks you?
It will sting. I will be upset but I don’t usually react. Usually I will just call up my friends and tell them what happened and talk about it with trusted others until I “solve” it in my head. Then going forward I will avoid or ignore that person completely.
What is one common misconception that people have? Explain why it is wrong.
Some people imply I am "emotional" and "hyper". Its not wrong. Lol. Sorry I don't have a misconception. I think people read me fairly well.
What did you do last Friday?
During the day I went to work. In the evening relaxed at home with a nice dinner and my LSI partner.
Pretty much an ideal day given that I interact with so many people at work.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
I suppose I don't think of accomplishments in those terms. I do what makes me happy and if something no longer makes me happy I make changes.
--Si/Ne valuing > Se/Ni valuing. Also Fe
What is something you regret?
I wish when I was younger and first in college I had more of a vision for my future. I spent a lot of time switching majors and programs trying to find the right fit. If only I had a strong sense of ambition or goals….now I am working on it. But it didn’t hit until my mid-twenties. I feel like a lot of my friends are much more accomplished than I am.
Who do you admire, and why?
Creative people are admirable to me. I enjoy unique ideas and art and people who do things differently than others. I love a lot of the unique artwork on Etsy and think that the people who created it see the world differently than everyone else and I think that is quite interesting.
I also admire logical people. I like how they can explain in-depth topics to me and fix problems for me. For example: my LSI partner will often figure out what is wrong with my car or HVAC system and make suggestions on how to proceed. He is an admirable partner because he is so helpful, logical and knowledgeable.
--Ne and Ti valuing
What's been on your mind? Has anything been worrying or concerning you? What problems have you encountered lately?
Sure- there is this feeling that I haven’t accomplished enough. Maybe that I am not living up to my full potential. Why am I not where I should be by now? What is my goal on this Earth? What is my purpose? How have I made life a little better on this planet? Is this all there is?
Then that feeling of working so hard and achieving what I wanted and…did I even want it?
What are your religious or spiritual beliefs and why do you hold them?
I went to a Christian School but could not maintain any belief. It is very difficult for me to envision an after-life. I am a Humanist because I believe in the values of Humanism. Ultimately I settled on agnosticism as I don’t see any evidence of an afterlife.
I wish I was spiritual…I believe in nature and caring for animals.
What are your political beliefs, and why? To what extent do you care about politics?
I care very much about politics. I spend at least an hour or so a day reading the news from various sites online. Although I am not one “type” politically I will say that we have an ethical obligation to care for those among us who need help, and have less. This could be determined to be moderate or liberal. I am probably not a conservative.
Would you ever be interested in starting a business? Why or why not? What role would you play in it? What kind of business would it be?
Oh no! Way too much work! Too much admin, responsibility, planning. Just not going to happen.
No desire at all.
--Unvalued and weak Te/Ni perhaps
What kind of work environment do you prefer? What do you look for in a job?
I need a flexible environment, where I have my own space. I dislike cubes, and 9-5. I need some freedom to plan my own day, and space. I need my own space because I like to talk on the phone, talk with others and it feels invasive to have so many people sitting right next to me.
I also dislike any environment that wants “conservative” clothing where people cannot dress with some individuality, patterns etc etc. This tends to exist in more administrative levels of education where people need to wear suits all the time.
Basically I need a lot of freedom, a friendly environment, and a lot of people to talk to.
What is or was your favorite school subject and why?
My favorite course is psychology as it makes perfect sense to me. It is the easiest course for me to understand and fascinating. I do so well in it because it is never boring.
I really like history and studying how people lived in the past. I have a great memory and tend to do quite well in history with remembering dates and names. I also enjoy art as a mode of expression. Lastly, I would say I enjoy philosophy. It is quite interesting to discuss morality.
How do you approach responsibility? What do you tend to expect of others?
I take responsibility very seriously. I dislike letting anyone down or breaking my commitments. If I have agreed upon something I will do it even if I have changed my mind. I expect the same of others.
I strive to keep my word, commitments and be on time.
Where did you go on your most recent vacation? What did you do there? How did you like it and why?
My partner and I went to Sicily and enjoyed it immensely. I had always wanted to go as it looked so beautiful (the beaches, food, touring, shopping). I spent a lot of time shopping, going to the beach and having great meals. My LSI partner and I went to relax, enjoy musical performances, and swimming.
What were you like as a kid? How have you changed since you were a child?
I have changed as I have calmed down tremendously! But still sensitive, emotional, somewhat creative.
Reading and crafts were my hobbies as a child and still interest me.
What was your high school experience like?
I was very social in high school- so much more than I am now.
It was fun, I put more emphasis on socializing than school work.
I think back about the socializing I did in high school and have fond memories, it was a great time in my life.
Talk about a significant event from your life.
Meeting my partner is very significant to me. He has had such a positive influence in my life and naturally handles all the things I don’t enjoy doing for me. He is kind, warm and smart and it makes me happy to have met him!
Do you like kids? Why or why not?
I like kids as I like anyone. They are part of society and deserve respect and kindness like all of us.
If you were to raise a child, what would be your main concerns, what measures would you take, and why?
If I had a child my main concern would be that the child had freedom. The freedom to explore the world in a way that was safe but not limiting. Also that they had exposure to many different cultures, museums, types of food, cultural experiences, travel, friends etc.
I would be a fairly lassie faire parent. My child would be in Montessori school.
---Ne value
Ever feel stuck in a rut? If yes, describe the causes and your reaction to it.
Not really. I am usually always on the go-something new is coming up on the horizon.
Mostly confused about the future...and purpose.
--Ne > Ni valuing, vulnerable Ni
How do you see other people as a whole? What do you consider a prevalent social problem? Name one.
A prevalent social problem-our food industry and regulation. Not just for humanity but for animals as well.
What do you do if you're not getting what you want? What approach do you use?
I just find another way to get it! This is usually easy for me, there are always alternatives ways to get what you want. Typically I will be upset for a day if I did not get what I wanted but by the second day I will have thought up some alternative round about way to get what I need/want.
--Ne valuing > Se valuing.
Are you comfortable taking leadership roles? In what areas? Why or why not?
Yes and I think I am a kind, patient leader and my current job involves me being a leader.
I lead with a style of optimism, and try to be gentle with other people’s feelings.
--Strong Fe
In regards to education related topics I do well in non-profit leadership.
I would not want to lead in the for-profit sector as it seems much more “tough”.
--Devalued Se?
How often do you get angry? What kinds of things make you angry?
I get angry about any kind of social injustice, child and animals not being treated well, suffering, unkindness, insensitivity, indifference to others and their needs.
These things bother me a lot. I vent about them to those closest to me.
What is the best thing that happened to you during the past week?
I tried a new restaurant that was French fusion. It was a very relaxing 2 hour meal and I loved that it was fusion and different.
--Si/Ne
What is the worst thing that happened to you during the past week?
When people criticize my work constructively and offer "feedback". I know they are trying to help but I am a perfectionist and I am already so tough on my own work!
What is the purpose of life? What do you find personally meaningful in life?
I actually don’t know-this is a particularly difficult question for me right now as I believe this is something I am struggling with. I am constantly trying to find purpose and the only way I know how at the moment is through my job.
I get a lot of satisfaction and meaning from my close relationships but those seem easy to form.
What is the most interesting place you have been, and why?
Well I love Japan and for many reasons but because I had never been before. Japan is so different than North America or Europe so that was the main reason.
--Ne
However, I really enjoy great veggie sushi, green tea kit kat bars and seeing the beautiful architecture of the temples. I also used to collect Hello Kitty stationary and pens so adding to my collection direct from the source was great.
--More Si creative
More specifically I loved visiting Nara, Japan. It is a unique city as there are these adorable wild deer running near the temples and they will come up to you and try to steal your snack or lunch.
Lastly, I loved the flight. It was around 15 hours but I feel so calm and relaxed on very long plane rides. Its like a total disconnect from technology and work but the excitement of going to Asia for the first time.
How do you dress or manage your appearance?
Caring for my appearance is something I just do naturally, it doesn’t feel like work. I enjoy going to hair and skin care appointments often. I wear natural make-up most days.
--Strong, valued Si
For me looking natural/soft is important, so I don’t dye my hair and wear a light pink nail polish and small earrings and jewelry. I love wedge heels and wear them as much as I can get away with it! My fashion sense is feminine and a little traditional/romantic style. Anthropologie is one of my favorite stores. Nothing beats a cute pink sweater.I also like Free People and Banana Republic.
Do you like surprises?
Yes, as I like the emotions that accompany them.
--Valued Fe
I need surprises...if things get too boring and predictable life becomes dull. I need to feel something.
Is there anything else important about you that we should know?
I think this covered everything!
