Member Questionnaire 1 (TheOrchid)
What is beauty? What is love? Beauty is an impression about the world. It can be subjective, although most of the times it will be mixed with external ideas/conventions of what beauty entails. Commonly, beauty is only associated with light, goodness and just those "good" emotions. However, there is beauty in the darker side of life as well.
Love is... well, an emotion that we form about things and people. Hard to define, to be honest.
What are your most important values? My most important value is avoiding causing meaningless, unjustified damage to others.
Do you have any sort of spiritual/religious beliefs, and why do you hold (or don't) those beliefs in the first place? I don't have religious beliefs (any more) because none of those already presented to me made much sense (oh, the contradictions), or gave me any result not tied to personal interpretation.
Opinion on war and militaries? What is power to you? Wars are foolish, but unavoidable. Competition is inherent to the human nature, and wars are the last result of that. Given that, military is sort of empty of meaning broadly speaking. It only has meaning in face of war/potential war.
Power is the way by which you can influence other people in order to get whay you want (not necessarily for you).
What have you had long conversations about? What are your interests? Why? Science, Religion, Music, Psychology. These are my main interests and what I talk about the most. Seldom I also had conversations about few important life experiences.
I can't really tell why I'm interested in this stuff. I just am, for as long as I can remember developing my own sense of self, independent of my family.
Interested in health/medicine as a conversation topic? Are you focused on your body? Well, yes, reasonably interested in Medicine, given that I study a related area.
Moderately focused on my own body, although I can ignore it if it is needed.
What do you think of daily chores? Necessary evil. Except cooking, cooking is wonderful.
Books or films you liked? Recently read/watched or otherwise. Examples welcome. Books: Contact, 1984, The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas, The Wholeness of Nature, Imperfect Symmetry.
Movies: Star Wars, Det Sjunde Inseglet, Inception, Matrix, Casablanca, Wall E.
What has made you cry? What has made you smile? Why? Personal, familiar problems, death of two people. Some songs can make me pretty emotional, though not to the point of actually crying.
I smile very little, but I laugh at any half-good joke.
Where do you feel: at one with the environment/a sense of belonging? I don't really feel a sense of belonging anywhere, to be honest.
What have people seen as your weaknesses? What do you dislike about yourself? I don't know what people have seen as my weaknesses, I'd have to ask them. There is nothing I dislike about myself.
What have people seen as your strengths? What do you like about yourself? Well, people have told me that I am intelligent and hard working.
I like many things about myself, it's hard to tell just some things without associating with the whole.
In what areas of your life would you like help? Finances lol... but not in the direct sense. I'm just looking for better opportunities to make money while my career is not complete yet.
Ever feel stuck in a rut? If yes, describe the causes and your reaction to it. No.
What qualities do you most like and dislike in other people? What types do you get along with? Like: Intelligence, honesty, efficiency.
Dislike: Incompetence, willful ignorance.
I get along with most people, and don't know their types.
How do you feel about romance/sex? What qualities do you want in a partner? Not interested in either.
If you were to raise a child, what would be your main concerns, what measures would you take, and why? My main concern would be raising an independent child. I'd show them that the world must not be understood through the lenses of your parents, and that they have to develop their own mind. Independence is very important, it makes one not helpless in the face of adversity.
A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward and outward reaction? Well, if it's not a stupid claim I'd at the most try to understand their point, otherwise just remain silent. If it is stupid, I'd just tell them that.
Describe your relationship to society. How do you see people as a whole? What do you consider a prevalent social problem? Name one. I see groups as a necessity inherent to the human nature and to organize life. Otherwise it would be pure chaos (though I'm not sure if I really find chaos a bad thing). The worst problem is ignorance. It just slowly kills everything good humanity can reach.
How do you choose your friends and how do you behave around them? I don't outright choose friends. I'm just closer to people who have at least some degree of affinity with me.
How do you behave around strangers? Quiet, observant, unless I need to ask for information or something like that.
