I think what happens is when you get older you adapt more. You learn strategies for getting along with your conflictor or other difficult relations. You also 'strengthen' the weaker functions through experience. A 1-D function is still a 1-D function but through experience you can confidently handle more situations using it the more experience you have. So an older person might look more balanced and well-rounded but the makings of the socionic type are still there. The type might not be as blatantly obvious but its still there. Also some older people seem to be become even more of a caricature of the their type. Maybe its the attitude that I'm not going to be around here forever, I have to stop pandering to what others want from me and just be myself.

In my experience, sociotype and other personality traits seem apparent from a very early age, possibly from birth.

People sort of adapt as they get older...but this adaptation can also mean maneuvering in the world in such a way that the core personality actually becomes expressed in a stronger way. People with extreme personality traits tend to sort of mellow out too.

I see no sign that type disappears at any age. It only disappears when your mind disappears.

Introduced? Introduced by whom? Apparent is the right word -- I mean that I have been able to type very young children, and also notice behavioral tendencies in toddlers. Hence I don't see a lower limit on when type can be identified, although it's obviously more difficult at the pre-verbal stage.
