Do benefactors and beneficiaries resemble one another?

Yes they often do, especially if there is an unusual emphasis on the Mobilizing function or the Demonstrative. Usually it's the mobilizing function but I haven't noticed a trend that favors choosing the Benefactor type in cases of confusion.

Yes as @Chae mentioned I have had experience with this, I first typed myself as SLE, it has to do with the HA. I typed my friend as IEI because I had already typed the relations, but soon afterwards I saw that I was wrong. Studying dichotomies, I realized they are not from beta quadra and then I saw obvious Fi ego function signs. So it was pretty easy afterwards to see that they are ESI although outwardly they look very similar. Kind, calm, "grey", poetic, etc.
It is just the surface though. Observing a bit more makes it all clear. I have met IEEs with good business skills and energetic, at surface they might resemble LIE, but you take a closer look and see they don't approach money similarly to LIE. They waste it away on useless stuff. Their jokes are different, even though we both make puns and sexual and inappropriate jokes but theirs are more playful, we are more sarcastic.
