The New Yorker had an article about Roald Dahl this past year that gave an interesting view into his character. It's available online here. For what it's worth, my impression is that he was ENTp.

He seems to have been a sort of EXTp kind of individual...but I'm by no means convinced by that.

A bit about his writing:

I'd much prefer to actually read his writing than read what people think of his writing

He's most assuredly delta IMO, but I can't decide between INFj and ISTp. Much of his writing seems to be stereotypically anti-beta, all of his antagonists are cruel-hearted overbearing dictator-esque characters. If I can find his autobiography I'll try to read it and see if anything's enlightening type-wise.

Oh yeah he definitely had a troublesome childhood, and I'm sure that rubbed off on him in some major negative fashion. I still can't help but like him and his writing.

I found my copy of his autobiography, and I've decided on ISTp for him. There's a brusqueness to his writing, especially in parts pertaining to his emotions/feelings, that I wouldn't expect from an INFj.

I always liked Roald Dahl as a kid. It was like he was an ally against the grown-ups, writing actual interesting stories instead of the insipid propaganda about sharing and caring that most children's authors put out, designed to brainwash us into obedient little robots.

I would type him as ILE, myself. IEE as a distant second. The anti-Se bias is pretty clear in his books, and his Ne is quite clear in those videos Baby posted, especially in the second one. It sounded like he was making all that up on the spot.

Very inelegant, very Delta; his works look monstrous to me (Matilda the movie was good, but that was directed by Danny DeVito). I'm not a fan of him. I don't hate him, just his work is mostly... well, ew.
