how can that which is basically brain dead be evil?
from every zombie fiction i've ever watched or read, the "evil" is in the lack of human qualities... as in that which looks human but is fundamentally mindless. the horror is in the imagination: no, mom wouldn't attack and kill me... she's my mom. she looks like my mom. she loved me... the horror is that your mother's decaying brain wants to eat you.
eta: perhaps it's worse. that there is no real love. mum's decaying brain proves it. the illusion is broken.
my sweet, not evil zombie grandma baked me brain cookies.
they are not beyond redemption
they r the byproduct of their culture
Evil is a choice so if zombified they are unable to make that choice. They are fueled by an instinct to survive, which is not inherently evil.

Maybe the villagers were evil for allowing the circumstance for it to kill.
Anyway, the moral of the story far as I'm concerned is this: less finger pointing more personal responsibility.
To use your example, the tiger protected itself, and it's young by feeding them, the villagers... got careless then blamed something else other than themself
So for villagers... Some ego involved
Then we move to loose the ego and move to Buddhism. If it gets bad enough we behead ourselves and become zombies, the circle of the thread is complete.
IME they are just hungry. Is being hungry really that evil?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluttony
its safe to say everything good you do in life has been declared a primary evil at some point in culturo-historical time
...
what the hell?IME
Gluttony is eating out of self-indulgence rather than for quelching hunger. When has eating to satisfy hunger been made into an evil? With the next question being: do zombies really eat to over-indulge and pamper themselves?
shhhhhhhHShhhshhhhhh it's ok ...what the hell?
to the extent i've fathomed their motives, they need no human flesh as sustenance to maintain their integrity or mobility and hunt us poor human solely for the exquisite taste of our brainnnzzzz.
then again i do not speak from IME
jesus was a zombie, ergo not evil
i wonder if the people Jesus brought back to life ever got hungry around other peoples heads.

That is like calling a lion evil.
Everything interests me but nothing holds me.
