Default SLIs what do you do for a living? occupations and jobs for ISTps

Any of the ISTPs have experience with working in the financial sector? I am currently beginning my second year at an ecnomics uni but I can't seem to shake the feeling that it's not my type of job. Of course changing everything and starting all over is quite drastic.

So I would like as many and as detailed opinions as possible. What career should fit, what do you, as an ISTP, do and enjoy etc

Thank you for you help and information

To be honest I don't know if we can tell you what YOU would be interested in doing. That's a crappy answer but a lot of people don't know what to do.

But if you find that you hate work altogether, then maybe you can try to get a job in porno.

I've seen a Rossian document says any job working alone is good for ISTp. Though this is most difficult since modern business is into communication in various way.

The only jobs i've been successful at ( and i've had MANY) were the ones that didn't require direct supervision. I seem to have issues with people telling me what to do, always get in arguments ; )

Careers that may have an interest for ISTP.

Yeah, you'd be leaving out airline pilots and anesthesiologists. That is, when they aren't opening up and fixing the airplanes and life support machines

read up on common jobs for ISTPs. We seem to be drawn to emergency situations... Perhaps police work, firefighter, military, etc? That is a very personal question that only you could really answer.

Yes. It's always fun to be a part of things like that. Thank god things like that happen cause life is really boring when there's nothing going on.

Agreed. I work in a catastrophe call center, for a large insurance company. When things are slow, we're just sitting around twittling our thumbs. However, when catastrophe's hit, I am in hog heaven. I am curious, I know or am pretty sure Winterpark, and Rocky are ISTPs, but what about the rest of you? I started a thread to ask what type a particular description that I posted, would be. For those of you who are sure they are ISTP, take a look to see whether some of the internalizing could fit you.

Thank you for the replies,I am as stuck as I was though. I'd just like to explain the situation in more detail. I will probably majoy in accounting/audit or finance instruments, I can get through the Uni without any problems, each class is pathetically easy and well....boring. I have one of the best average grades in the Uni, I don't pay any tuition and I will probably be able to get a decent job when I graduate...but I have no idea if actually want all of that.

Try to change the path? Possibilities

    - Army - our country doesn't have one
    - Police, firemen etc - the salary os so awful that one can't even buy food
    - Engineering, I don't know the first thing about physics because our school always lacked a teacher.

So yeah, no idea why I am writing this *shrugs*

I am actually so sick of this routine that I would like to just send everybody to hell and hike on foot through some countries nearby...

Careers for an ISTP? Well, I can tell you what i've generally been interested in. To start off, I'm in the military and i love it, because I thrive on adrenaline, im combat arms, so i got front row tickets to big show. It's great, but ive found that I generally can't make up my mind about a career. I find that I cant really stay with one for too long just because I get bored with it. But, I tend to lean more towards things like military, police, pilot, investigative jobs such as detective, inteligence related work, into history a lot, but i generally hate the classroom setting. Id like to be a doctor perhaps, but there's no way i could be in school that long. I love to learn and know about things how things work why they work the way they do, but Im just not meant to be in a classroom setting. I like to go out and do shit with my hands, i'm not big on paperwork but when I do have to do it, I do it really well. I'm pretty organized so I generally am really sucessful in jobs that I wouldnt ever really consider for myself.
Yesterday I knew nothing, today I know that.

Default SLIs what do you do for a living? occupations and jobs for ISTps

I have just learned I am an ISTP. I have been struggling with figuring out what my career should be.

Right now, I'm 28 and work for a record company doing "marketing". It is cool and all, but extremely draining on me, unstable and it has been rather boring with the mind numbing details and following through on marketing plans.

I get whims here and there what to do, but I'm constantly changing my mind so I can't settle. Much like when I was a kid playing basketball, I could never settle on one shooting form.

How the hell do I figure this out?

Dude, you live in New York City and have a background in marketing, there's lots of jobs in your reach if you're willing to go through an interview.

Well, the thing is I HATE HATE HATE working in NYC and I am actively trying to get out and move to a smaller city with my girlfriend.

I also am very bored of marketing. A trained monkey could do my job.

I've realized that I do love to work with my hands, but my entire education was primarily based on the Mass Communications major I had in college. I have very little experience with the hard sciences and maths needed to transfer into something like engineering. I'm bummed!

I hear ya man. i've denied my true skills for some reason (pressure to go to college), while all this time i've never realized just how good with my hands I can be.

And yeah, it was really hard for me to decide on a career too.

I found out that being an Electrician could be potentially pretty cool. Lots of use of brains and hands, so, i'm gonna try that out. Maybe you should look into it. (I'm an ISTp too).

I personally don't understand why anyone would want to live/work somewhere like NYC. I always had dreams of the 'big city' life and all i can say is...no. I spent a day here in Chicago shopping and lounging around the city and when it was time to leave, I was ready to rip someone's head off. I think i'm still recovering. Entirely too many people, too much noise, too much going on, too dirty, etc. Ew. I prefer my quietness that is within driving distance of the city. I think living there would be overstimulation to the max, too much for us introverts ;p . I only imagine NYC is a million times worse.

But back to the topic at hand, I honestly don't know. If i did know, i wouldn't be in the same situation. I change my mind daily. Nothing is worse than having a head full of ideas and not knowing how to act on them or having them change all the time.

I wish i were 16 again. Not going to college has been the biggest mistake i've probobly made. Don't screw your life up like me or you'll be sitting behind a computer getting fat for the rest of your life.

And then some people say that not going to college has made them stuck at a back breaking job for life.

True. I can't really make up my mind about it but i do know that i'd have much more opportunities than what i have now...which is basically settling for a typical womens job of being a secretary. Fun fun.

    Go to bakery school.

I once dated a firefighter (so unbelievably hot) and that has to be the most stressful job you could imagine. He'd work 3 days straight and at times had to clean up peoples brains on the highway, i'll have to pass on that. Plus you still have to go to school and pass many mental health tests--i think i'd fail a few of those, haha.

I always wanted to be a cook..

Yeah my gf is looking into bakery school, she loves the idea of it so far and is gonna take a class before she enrolls in the school.

Then there's always the money issue. I would imagine cooks / bakers don't make that much...and most are stuck somewhere like a hotel or a nursing home

I make entirely too many excuses...

Hey, there's a point where I'm gonna make ENOUGH money a year to keep me happy. I'm pretty sure it's under 70k. It'd be NICE to have more, but fuck, i'm a simple guy and I only need so much money.

Point being, I spend 8 hours a day at work minimum. If I fucking hate my job, there's only so much money you can give me in the world before I'd say "peace out" anyway.

    Think about it :-D
