A premise is what reasoning uses to orient itself. For example:

Premise 1:Boys are blue.
Premise 2:Girls are pink.
Reasoning: Girls and boys are not the same color.

Premise 1: Murder is wrong.
Premise 2: Abortion is murder.
Reasoning:Abortion is wrong.

These are probably too simple to be good examples but ...you know.
