    I think they generally would prefer to be always left alone

    IME it goes mostly like this...when they're alone, they'd prefer to be left alone, but when they're not, they're very happy of being with people. The pushing seems to "Not be registered", in the sense that if somebody goes pushy with me for example I'll hold it against them, whereas they seem to uhm, not even mention it :S
