    Hey all!

So it's been a really fun week for me! I recently acquired a bass guitar as well as a few other music tech goodies. I've been way behind the curve on learning how to record and mix, so I spent the afternoon recording a few small selections via a USB Audiobox, GarageBand, and a VocalistLive harmonizer. These are all extremely, extremely rough demos as I recorded the vocals and guitar live and then played the bass afterwards. I'm hoping this is just the beginning of some much more polished work

Harvest Moon - Neil Young cover

Fields of Gold - Sting cover

Also, I was pretty happy with some of the bass lines I was able to muster, considering I've been playing bass for about 48 hours.

    Dreams - Fleetwood Mac cover

    Operator - Jim Croce cover

Hosannah - Hillsong cover. I'll have to re-record due to quite a few mistakes ("sh-open"), but this is perhaps one of my fav praise & worship songs for those interested: @kadda1212 @Eliza Thomason @Director Abbie

This song reflects the actual thought process that goes thru my head rather than just being a song I can just "like" or relate to. I'll make a full-scale thread about this kinda thing later.

Another, instrumental song of mine. This is from 2008.

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

    SO

    --------------------------------- MIX ---------------------------------

I'm DJ (somewhat), I mix a vast array of style, I stopped to mix in party since mid 2015, I'm lacking opportunities since our group of friend somewhat splitted, and I'm not that motivated with doing self promo and stuff atm, as I concentrate on composition (see next title). I plan to make a kinda come back later as I really appreciated playing in party from 2013 - 2015. Was playing in free parties, pub, squat. Next time Ill mix at party I hope playing in a club in a close town wich specialize in techno, will be playing new genre of techno like dark/experimental techno.

I'm playing mainly a free party style named "hardtek mental", example :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/mix-a...es-disques-n-2

    More melodic one :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/catch-the-melody

The first mix wich made me known outside my town was this one (I began to mix mid 2007, collecting records, increasing my music knowledge, and this mix from 2013 is the first "good", "recordable" mix Ive done. Before it was more like "draft". After that mix nothing stopped myself lol, I released at least a mix each 3-4 month) :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/la-re...est-42-mixtape

I like this one too, full of "light speed drivers" songs, a famous duo composer from neederlands :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/1-079-252-8488a

This one is composed of many records from the most famous composer in the "hardtek mental style", died in 1998. His records cost now beetween 80 and 150€.
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/curle...-curley-part-2

For those interested in hardcore stuff, Ive done a short french hardcore mix (I ended second), madness. This wave of experimental french hardcore is imo the best stuff hardcore have produced, 100 time over idiot skin nazi stuff from gabber nederland homosexual stuff :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/decem...ntest-hardcore

you can have too more classical tribish sound from free party like that, more pumping & funny, aggreable to mix :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/routi...4-simple-tribe

But I play too drum & bass :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/mix-l...villiers-20-07

And, my favourite style when it come to develop my proper style/personnality, cross over beetween ambient, break, experimental. I consider the following mix as the best Ive done to this day (here you have ambient stuff, break, pink floyd, sigur ros... Even some Whale song
    ) :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/solaar-pleure

This one was great too imo, in term of "personnal stuff" (mainly oriental ambience, ambient & break, ending with more occidental/white song & arvo part - fur alina) :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/oriental-sin

Edit : I just recorded a mix while on 40mg Diazepam (valium) & 1mg loprazolam. Just for experience. At the end the result is not that bad it seem, with some punk hint, disharmonic, but a bit linear. Playlist is not possible due to my state closer to blackout more than normal consciousness. I slept 20h after this mix :
    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/manag...g-some-records

    --------------------------------- COMPOSITION ---------------------------------

At this moment, I begin what I was planning to do from the beginning, music composition. At term I would like to compose some piano piece, but atm it's electronic stuff.
That's the introduction of my first track :

    https://soundcloud.com/zattwaks/no_id-introduction

and that's the draft of the end of this first track :

    https://soundcloud.com/zattwaks/excl...ack-read-descr

Will post it here when it will be finished, I plan a vinyl release if it's good. This is the track on side A first track, I know already what will be on A2 but no idea of what will be on B. Perhaps something with some Jimi Hendrix sample.

Strong part of IEI are emotions. You may dive in them, and your imagination will follow you. Then your performance would be more interesting. When you are constrained, then there is no life in what you do.

This a song that we recorded with my band in our reharsal space, it's probably NOT the absolute final version and we will make some changes in the recording. My guitarist came up with the whole concept and melody, I came up with the singing line and lyrics and everyone just added their instrument.

compo playlist if you are interested (something like 10 track added since last post).

    https://soundcloud.com/no_idsc/sets/...cks-finished-2

I'm definitely procrastinating and this is annoying to me, I'm sorting other sides of my life then will go back to composition, even if I'm currently more attracted to writing.

I still do mix on vinyls turntable, it's easy now to myself, but it's more a pass time hobby than something I work very much. I'm not sure I want to go serious into mixing, I see how it is, I know it's limit, and always digging for new sound become boring with time. Perhaps Ill work 1 or 2 years in order to make 2 industrial/techno/break/ambient mix with a good construction and concept, but that's all, after that Ill be probably finished with mixing.

Here are my last 2 techno mix, it's almost mainstream sound (I was autist before with the underground stuff I was mixing). Mixing come easy now to myself. As I said, my next objective are more writing then occasionnal electronic music composition.

I've been writing music for about half a decade. Here are a few of my short compositions (I don't mess with mixing or live instruments--it's done purely with notation and cheap electronic instruments):

Here's yet another piece of mine, this one started at 3:00 AM and finished a few hours later: https://soundcloud.com/user-321964225/emerald-2

As with all of my pieces, I rush to post it without waiting to listen to it with a fresh ear, which means that some degree of awkwardness goes uncorrected. I am satisfied with it, though. I've been trying a new, freer approach to music, and I think it has paid off.

I realized that the instruments in the soundfonts I was using were a little out of tune with each other, so I went through and reuploaded all of the music I posted in this thread. Not gonna post links to all of that again. I will post links to three new pieces of mine, though:

Thanks for listening! You're the second person to compare my recent music to the works in Castlevania, so there is evidently something to be said for that. To answer your question, I would never try composing music for a video game or any other specific theme. Why? Because the music kind of has a mind of its own. I never know how it's going to turn out--can't know--until the notes start hitting the screen. It's always a bit of a surprise.

Anyway, here are three more works of mine written during the past couple of days:
