yay for being handy
i get to fix my roomie's PC today, somehow auto update got turned on and one of the updates triggered Genuine Validation and now it's popping up with counterfeit software shit and interrupting full screen videos... annoying
hoping this pre-activated OEM copy will get rid of that shit

Thanks CP. It seems they have no solution there. Here is the last post in that thread.
Oh well, Microsoft giveth then they taketh away...Why won't microsoft answer this simple problem. I have the same problem as I'm sure hundreds of others do of backing up files on vista to an external drive but not being able to restore them on my new Window 8.1 computer. There is no "Window 7 File recovery" in "file history" that is supposed to make such a restore possible. Did they eliminate it with 8.1 upgrade which was supposed to be and improvement on 8.
This is crazy, to make it impossible to restore files in 8.1. I hope that microsoft can give us an answer. Sooon!!!

From what I understand, XP and Vista does not play well with Windows 8. They designed it anticipating the majority of the people migrating from Windows 7. Sorry there doesn't seem to be an easy solution for you.
I'm kind of burnt out on dealing with Windows shit and have been spending most of my time lately playing around with Debian-based Linux distros.
I went to tech school for this.. lot of good it does me.
Edit: and don't get me started on Microsoft tech support. I end up telling them what to do. And true story, I let one of their techs do remote desktop once and he wrote on my screen, "I want to see you naked". WTF?

I never went to school, purely self-taught. Been toying around with PCs since grammar school. I've thought about getting a CompTIA A+ certification, but I don't feel like putting fourth the time and effort presently.
I try not to call tech support for anything. Unless I'm dealing with a computer or a part that's under warranty, and I can get something replaced or fixed for free. Only other time I'm bound to call any kind of technical support is when the Internet is down, and I want to confirm if it's a network outage or a problem with my account, when it appears that everything checks out on my end.
fuck anything past xp.
...backwards compatibility is going the way of the dinosaur...

Do not get win 8.0, vista, xp, win 98, win 95. Get win 7 or win 8.1.

Your files won't be restored for many reasons I am not aware of, for I do not have any info nor access.
HDD or SSD?
FAT32 or NTFS?
Bear in mind the method(?) you format your drive depends on its size.

I do not study philosophy. It's something I leave for the Alpha, Gamma and Beta Quadra on here, you know, they're into practice and apparently they do need more schooling, so they school themselves in meow and blahblah. And accepting something as your own is not any form of following any one or anything, for you have the power (just like me) to make other philosophies(?) your own and defect any time you want. Not to mention criticise them.
It is all about acceptance.

You and you, and you. Okay, it is me, if you want to make it personal.
I did smoke fags, weed and mixed it with alcohol (vodka plus beer). Hell, I called vodka mouthwash and still do, for it is only 50 volt and doesn't really have an effect on me. Incidentally, I know a guy who once got drunk on mouthwash, real mouthwash. The irony.
But to the point, I don't smoke for at least three months now ( I smoked to a point i looked at it, dropped it and walked away), I can't stand weed (never could) and I hardly drink. So it is alla about acceptance, and picking up, say, smoking was it. I did, smoke one cig after y death period just to check what did I miss and to this day I don't know how could I "inject" that in my body.
Ahh, I kinda feel ya here but... well never listen to me because I am headless. It makes sense now that I know. Knowing is only half the battle within.

Damn... no chicken. Sucks
Yeah, such cruelty and pure evil I have to endure, I hope not for long...
Windows 8.1 just fucked my Last.FM, it worked last night. Scrobbling not working at all. I played like 50 songs today and just checked Lastfm and nothing. All windows tells me is that it is a compatibility issue, yet it worked last night. Do you use the scrobbler? arrrgh![]()
