The blood that runs within my veins
Keeps me from ever ending up the same

The fire that's pushing me on and on and on
To me it's everything and it makes me fucking strong

    Love me or hate me
    I walk alone

Been called a monster, called a demon, called a fake
I'm not an idol, not an angel, not a saint

I walk alone, I always have, I'm not ashamed
A living nightmare from the cradle to the grave

The Barnum or Forer effect is the tendency for people to judge that general, universally valid statements about personality are actually specific descriptions of their own personalities. A "universally valid" statement is one that is true of everyone—or, more likely, nearly everyone. It is not known why people tend to make such misjudgments, but the effect has been experimentally reproduced.

The psychologist Paul Meehl named this fallacy "the P.T. Barnum effect" because Barnum built his circus and dime museum on the principle of having something for everyone. It is also called "the Forer effect" after its discoverer, the psychologist Bertram R. Forer, who modestly dubbed it "the fallacy of personal validation".

    Leveling the playing field.

I told my son that there were lots of animals that killed people. He had no trouble believing that, and I hope it kept him out of trouble.

It’s often the guys who think they’re invincible who run into trouble.

That’s aside from the ones who are just unlucky.

Bound upon me, rush upon me, I will overcome you by enduring your onset: whatever strikes against that which is firm and unconquerable merely injures itself by its own violence. Wherefore, seek some soft and yielding object to pierce with your darts.

Believe it or not, seeing this kind of shit adds value, purpose, and meaning to my life. @Adam Strange we were talking about watching the news. As sad as it is to deal with the things that happen, they need to be dealt with. Someone has to put an end to them. Things like this add more reasons to go on living (not that I need more).

I want the world to identify those red flags about people like him BEFORE these tragedies happen. I want people to cast off their naivety and equip themselves with the knowledge that is essential for protecting themselves and their loved ones from these horrible things. Their lives are irreplaceable, but the least we can do for these kinds of victims is listen to their stories and then help to prevent it from happening to others, using the normalization of psychological knowledge for self-care and protection.

@Noir, the evil of individuals committing one-on-one violence doesn't disturb me. I mean, there are clear remedies for this behavior.

What bothers me are the individuals who are in a position to make society better, but they don't. Tywin Lannister comes to mind. Clearly the most politically astute person in GoT, but not interested in transforming his society, merely in positioning himself at the top of it, because he was lazy.
