Where do you get your news from?
I'm curious about how people here inform themselves of current events. Answer the poll and reply with your primary news sources. You don't need to list them all if you're a news junkie, just three or so, but feel free to list up to 500 news sources if you really want to be a dick, but really, no one is going to read them all.
Drudge Report, Huffington Post, Der Spiegel, Fark, The Independent, Al Jazeera are some of my regular reading material. Using the aggregators I'm able to read from hundreds of sources, but I still read spiegal and the independent, etc, regardless of what the aggregators come up with. I hate cable news because they no longer separate reporting from analysis(opinion), so when there's a breaking news story, you have analyst-panelists going on and on about the causes, implications and the meaning of an event that's still going on. Local network news is mostly fluff or focuses on local or regional issues, but they barely touch on national or global issues. A lot of my regular reads tend to be extremist propaganda, like alexjones.com and indymedia.org but every so often they break an important story. They're also amusing. Sometimes if I'm in a bad mood and I need a good laugh I'll type in "alex jones freaks out" in youtube....hi-lar-ious.
I don't really use the news except to establish some fact baselines, I try to stick to analysis vs news. Study the groups, demographic makeup, collect the facts and see how the players are interacting.
If I want commentary and editorals I go to various commentators by name. This is if I want someone else's analysis.
I do take TMZ quite seriously. I'm in the know about Lamar Odom's crack problem.

I generally just want to know the players in any sort of story. There's generally a lot of specialized resources to get facts about these individuals and some concrete results and numbers. You can then reverse engineer various scenarios of how such actions occurred or what might have happened. I'm typically skeptical of a lot of things so it's better to cover all the possible scenarios then be agnostic about the actual truth.Originally Posted by lungs

Primary sources and the like were not listed because I wanted to know which news outlets people use, if any. There are plenty of government organizations and ngos that compile statistics and facts, not to mention liveleak.com, wikileaks.org, street journalists, Pew Research Center(and others). Certain US Gov sites, GAO and Recovery.gov in particular, are interesting to flip through.
I don't really watch the news that much anymore, it's not like I can have a direct impact on the happenings anyhow. Actually I read a lot of local newspapers since usually I can manage to do/see something local whereas for anything larger I'm just a number.

did she do a shower thread? Again, this thread is different than both of the previous news threads. The poll allows more options than just a)cnn, b)foxnews, etc. I wanted to see which medium was used most often(ie, cable news vs. news aggregators, US news vs non-US news) rather than which channel you watch.
I used to read the news from BBC, but it just made me depressed, so now I don't read the news at all. There's just so much going on in the world and there always will be - life will continue for me either way, so why worry myself? I figure if an event is important enough, I'll read about it on facebook or hear about it by word of mouth. So, uh, I guess that's my answer. Facebook and word of mouth.
