Nope. Totally serious. I'll give money to the Libertarian crazies if they attract voters away from the Republican crazies. Libertarians are unelectable, but Republicans are not.
I've considered registering as a Republican so I can vote for the worst Republican candidate in the primaries. Someone so horrible that they are unelectable in the general election, but I think that could be dangerous because the Republicans seem to have no bottom when it comes to electing horrible people. My worst choice might get elected. Better to try to get the best Democrat elected, I suppose.
I think I understand @duality is cringe's post better now. Jo Jergensen took voters away from Donald Trump, which caused the election in Michigan to swing in favor of Biden.
But is that really the case? Libertarian candidates might also be taking votes from Democrats. The Libertarian party is socially liberal, so already that part appeals to Democratic voters. And if the Dems put forth a more economically left wing candidate, you can be sure many Centrist Dems will look for alternatives.
Though in Michigan I have to wonder....what is it Dem voters look for? Rebuilding the economy and infrastructure perhaps?

I feel less sure about the US, but in Poland many ofso-called 'libertarians' would vote or vote for Confederation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confed...d_Independence - which is far-right). With their own party catered to their demands realistically in play, I guess they wouldn't (so, if Korwin and alike were out of Confederation, they wouldn't vote for it if they are still libs). Those truly socially progressive and caring about it (and yet for minimal government intervention in markets) often don't vote at all.
So, it depends, but I would rather see it as 'stealing from Reps' than 'stealing from Dems', for what I know.

Though American libertarians may talk a good game about being "socially liberal," they'll almost always prioritize their personal economic and property interests over the social, which typically makes them more of a right-wing voting bloc than a left one (this never happens in reverse despite theoretically having equal stakes in both). And despite their claims of ardent anti-statism, they will almost never actually engage in any credibly subversive or threatening actions to the institutions of social control and are more likely to condemn any such actions. They have virtually no presence in left movements but are mainstays in the conservative grassroots and notable contributors to American right-wing social thought. Repubs have more to gain from them than Dems ever will.
It's a common thing to refer to libertarians as "Republicans who want to smoke weed."
