Coming up with a more objective way based on criteria like this ... I can make a test similar to this that can be passed around to people who know you like the 'johari' window ( http://kevan.org/johari?name=rmcnew
), and after say it gets passed to 30 people or some number it calculates a type. Do you guys think that would be effective? I think it would help to balance out subjective self-perceptions objectivelly as compared to the perceptions of others.

I don't think the composite of other peoples' perceptions of another individual necessarily yields a more objective result - in fact, it can work in the opposite direction.

Nevertheless, it sounds like a fun activity, so do it.

Actually, I agree that that can be a potential drawback for the simple fact that it may matter who you pass the test on to. For example, a family member may be more accurate than someone who is an aquaintance or a friend who has not known you for very long.

I may make an option on the test that distinguishes that. Like:

What is you relationship to this person:
1.)Close friends
2.)Family member
3.)Aquaintance
4.)Only online

How long have you known this person:
1.) a few days
2.) a few months
3.) a few years

Etc. And actually factor in a validity factor based on that criteria.

you can do that just for analysis of results, but i don't think a mechanism which automatically discounts somebody's response just based on how long they've known would be useful since you could get good responses from them or bad responses from family members, etc.

but just in terms of including such a procedure and using it for statistical comparison would be fine.

The craziest question I have ever seen in any test. And there are so few questions altogether, so the answer will probably make a difference.
