    something like it yes; falafel has a lot more spices, which are sometimes quite expensive and IMO unnecessary.

    I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

    Koshari

    1 1/2 cups short grain white Rice
    2 small Onions
    3 1/2 Tbsp Corn oil
    2 1/2 cups Water
    3/4 cup Lentils
    2 tsp Salt
    3 cloves Garlic, crushed
    1/2 Tbsp Vinegar
    1/2 cup Tomato juice
    1 Tbsp Tomato paste
    1/4 tsp Chili powder
    Dash black Pepper

    • Soak the rice for 20 minutes and then take all the water out of it.
    • Coarsely cut the onions. Add 2 1/2 Tbsp corn oil to them and sautee in a non-stick casserole until golden brown.
    • Take out two thirds of the sauteed onions and put in a plate. In the casserole, add 2 cups water and 1 1/2 tsp salt.
    • When the water boils, add the rice and lentils. Mix and cover.
    • After 5 minutes, put heat to low and leave to cook for 10-15 minutes. After that, stir. Take off heat.
    • In a saucepan, put the remaining oil. When the oil heats up, add the crushed garlic. Sautee until golden in color. Add the vinegar. Stir quickly and add the tomato juice, tomato paste and 1/2 cups water. Add 1/2 tsp salt, the chili powder and black pepper. Leave to boil until it thickens like a sauce. Then, take away from heat.

    To serve, put about 1 cup of the lentils and rice in a bowl, add 2 Tbsp sauce on top and sprinkle some sauteed onions. Serve with everyday salad (I submitted the recipe before).
    Makes three servings.

    Number of Servings: 3

    To make koshari like it was served in the Cairenese deli where I found it, I mix cooked macaroni with the layer of rice and add garbanzos atop the sauce.

    I do something similar to this with canned salmon or tuna, but add some celery, fennel seeds or celery seed of your choice can also be good to give it some crunch and a burst of flavor. Some spicy mustard and/or horseradish puree works to give it a different sort of kick.

    I generally skip the garlic.

    I generally find a canned fish + aromatic + crunch + a binder(generally mayo) in a variety of combinations is delicious. Heat optional.

    Also I prefer packed in olive oil not water.

    Grilled ham and cheese sandwich with jam.

    A sweet thing and pork goes great together. The combination of bread, cheese, is endless, and the cheese is there for pure decadence.

    This is one of those simple simple recipes that can be made infinitely better by paying attention to seasoning and flavor balance. Salt, pepper, and other ingredients can help sometimes, but I caution about adding too much.

    Cook over medium heat until cheese is gooey.

    There are some naysayers to jam and grilled cheese, but I will be getting to the banning and neutralization of these individual shortly.

    These and a song to sing while making them:

    "How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races, the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love."

    yeah probably that,too.i mean,it's the quintessence of ze peppah ,right?cut it off and see what happens !

    btw i'm a tabasco freak but i think i'll give chili flakes a try since they must be less processed

    also,in an other thread of yours, you wrote about some issues that you have/had with your digestive system/liver.do you think it's possible that putting chili flakes in everything may aggravate the condition? i mean,i've only heard positive remarks on the impact of hot peppers on health,but still!

    i haven't tried it yet but apparently you can make a cake just by mixing together a box of cake mix + a can of soda and baking. it seems weird, but i've been seeing a million variations on that basic recipe and i haven't seen it called out yet.
    or i've also heard cake mix + 1 cup greek yogurt + 1 cup water.

    Try pancakes or waffles with yogurt as an ingredient.

    Gnocchi and cherry tomatoes with basil

    Ingredients:
    * some cherry tomatoes sliced in half
    * gnocchi
    * pasta sauce
    * fresh basil
    * grated parmasan cheese

    Boil some water and add the gnocchi, wait until they are cooked and drain.
    Add pasta sauce to gnocchi and stir. Add fresh tomatoes. Sprinkle with basil and finish off with grated parmesan cheese. Should look something like this ^^
