It doesn't work as a positive expression when what you're trying to express isn't representative of my character. My internal conception of 'quirky' is that it's all an image fabrication, a roundabout way of fitting in with people by trying to accentuate differences that don't even exist in the first place. This gives with it a sense of try-hardiness, trying to forcefeed an image down people's throats, which has always irked me. The only marginally positive effect I see it having is people responding with "hyuck hyuck look how different the different person is," but you'd only get this response from people who don't know how to look past a thin veneer of image fabrication and find deeper substance.
