And like you said the Rationalism vs Empiricism debate has been going for a long time. I think empiricism had the upperhand for a while. At least in the areas of science and research. I believe math is one of the few rationalist fields left. When I think of modern science and empiricism I get a distinct Te vibe from them (efficiency, practical thinking, etc) so it is very likely that funding issues are and have restricted the diversity of research. And logical positivism definitely has had an influence on the current scientific paradigm. What's interesting is that logical positivism is somewhat a blend of empiricism and rationalism, so it's possible that we're heading towards a reconciliation of the two philosophies.
