"I feel like I should be making a sarcastic comment right now, but you're just so cute!" - Shego, Kim Possible
He was involved in pantheism, so my guess is some sort of perceiving sensible type ...
What connection is there between panthiesm and being XSXP?

Well, pantheism was a common fad at the time among intellectual circles, but most people were highly skeptical about it.
No exact reason otherwise, just a hunch ...
I dont think a person's beleifs can indicate what their type is, as there are people of every type who hold the beleifs each of the major, and most of the not so major, world religions. I think the way in which they processs the information pertaining to their beleifs define their type, but how do you measure the way in which one processes information? That is the question.

My friend and I always made Emerson an INTp and Thoreau an INFj, to correlate with our types. It's not to be taken seriously though.
I did do a report on Emerson in English once, my friend on Thoreau. But seriously, I don't know what his type is, not that that helps.
Binary or dichotomous systems, although regulated by a principle, are among the most artificial arrangements that have ever been invented. -- William Swainson, A Treatise on the Geography and Classification of Animals (1835)
Here are a bunch of quotes: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/au...o_emerson.html
I think there's a Ni/Se focus, and this one suggests he's dynamic: "To fill the hour—that is happiness."
That sounds like an E7 to me.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...

At first I thought SLI, but no. Male ESI, probably ESI-Fi.
