"How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races, the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love."

Don't really like this song...

and
Reason is a whore.
I present to you Toxic, by Britney Spears. . . except better!
Secondly, best of the best:
Original:
Reason is a whore.
A remix which is better than the original is a rare find in my opinion. However, I believe it largely depends on what I've heard first.

It pains me to say this, because I loves me some Dolly, but Jack White's cover of Jolene is better.
Nothing earth-shattering, but this is Skrillex's best track by far IMO, was addicted for a minute:
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
Whilst our laughter echoed,
Under cerulean skies...
OH GOD AND THIS
Mostly because of the dancing though![]()

Well it wasn't perfect. Watch the landing: she lands with her feet out in front of her and kind of pulls herself up. Athletically its impressive as shit, but its not as crisp as if she landed all balanced with her feet beneath her.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...
Yet even then, we ran like the wind,

This one's a mashup of The Pixies "Where Is My Mind" (the one from Fight Club), and MArvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On."
And I like this one better than Elvis':

I don't know if I would call it the best, but this Eric Burden has a power to his voice that i love in this version.

A lot of people seem to think this is a Joplin original. It's actually a cover of Jerry Lee Lewis, but this is the best version IMO.
This next song has been covered by a lot of people, but perhaps the most famous version was done by The Fugees in '95, with Lauryn Hill on lead vocals. The song was originally popularized in 1971 by Roberta Flack.
this video has so much emotion and possible meanings. Every time I listen to it, I tear up, and even that doesn't do justice to the intensity of the emotion I feel listening and watching it. But I feel nothing when Nine Inch Nails sings it...it's almost comedic to me then.
Supposedly when (Trent?) the vocalist/songwriter of NIN heard Johnny Cash sing it, he cried, and said it wasn't his song anymore. Basically, when the original vocalist says someone else did it better, then that says a lot.

I have to agree, Johnny Cash owns Hurt now. It is awesome.

If you want to be a music superstar in Japan, you are required by law to cover this song.
No idea why it became as popular as it did, but wiki says that at least 11 different artists have given their own interpretation. This one is by far the best imo:
Cake - I Will Survive
And I would hide my face in you and you would hide your face in me, and nobody would ever see us any more.

I guess this counts as a cover
"Brother Louie" was a controversial song when first released in the early '70s, about an interracial love affair. The original was by Hot Chocolate, and topped the UK charts. . .
. . . but most everyone is familiar with the verison by The Stories, as it made #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Though the Hot Chocolate original ain't bad, I like The Stories version better.
Much love to Dolly Parton of course, but in the humble opinion of this pop music aficionado, Whitney killed it!

^ I was waiting for someone to post that, heh. Aretha's "Respect" is another classic remake that eclipsed the original:

Not a cover/remix, but an example of a band who is much better live than in the studio, IMO:
Compare this...
with the studio version...
The studio version just doesn't have the same energy or soul. I love this song.![]()
