"How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races, the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love."
-- Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
I would like to dedicate this to Pirate

Rihanna's original is so inferior to this version that it only deserves a mention but not a link.
^ That was awesome. I also like his version of "Everlasting Love" though I still prefer Gloria's. (EDIT: Okay, I just learned that "Everlasting Love" dates back to the 60s and that it's been covered for years; there's a version I like better than Gloria Estefan's by Carl Carlton that I haven't heard since I was a kid.)
Most people know "House of the Rising Sun" from Eric Burdon and The Animals' version. It's a folk song with unknown origins. But credit for the most familiar version of the song, though, I think should really go to Josh White, who transformed the melody from a pretty jaunty blues ballad into something mournful and plaintive. Most versions prior to White's version sound like what Leadbelly's doing here:
Most versions after Josh White sound like his:

Not sure if I posted this before... worth a second shot anyway:

Not better, but different
Also, not necessarily better.
Ok, I will just outright admit that I think this one is better.
I love The Cure but Tricky does it better. <3
“My typology is . . . not in any sense to stick labels on people at first sight. It is not a physiognomy and not an anthropological system, but a critical psychology dealing with the organization and delimitation of psychic processes that can be shown to be typical.” —C.G. Jung
