I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn’t quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn’t make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet. –Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar
I've never particularly cared for Plath, but I like this quote. As for making solid, positive choices one believes in... the choices before me at the moment seem not like sun-ripened figs. They're astringent, insipid little crabapples, lol. Nothing is very enticing. And picking any of them is an unappetizing prospect. This is probably the first time in my life where I've felt forced to compromise with circumstance. And I don't like it one bit:

"How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races, the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love."

Hmm sometimes I wait a long time for what I want to come along because it's impossible to have it now. But I never settle. But I guess I'm lucky because I'm not in a situation where I HAVE to pick things that don't inspire .

Out of curiosity, what are some of the things that have inspired you?

    tl;dr

I think keeping life open-ended has more to do with being irrational than IEI in particular.
And I would hide my face in you and you would hide your face in me, and nobody would ever see us any more.

Hmm, interesting question ! It's more a general overall attitude to follow my bliss with strength and never give in to less. I posted a post up just now, about being determined to have a friendship with an SLE, insisting on my terms (platonic). That's an example of how my attitude subtly manifests, going after what I want and being determined to have it how I want it.

Being surrounded by brilliant people who I truly connect to has been something I have been determined to materialize most recently, and through waiting, not settling and going out to make these relationships happen - it's happened !
