I honestly don't know if you were playing along with HLD's joke and being ironic, or if you actually thought that he was serious.

This is the one thing I don't like about Betas, but at the same time, I would think someone who is Fe-valuing would not want to come off as hostile.... If one wants to have a positive influence on other people, then wouldn't jokingly hostile be avoided?

@WA: Ahh, you know there is not much to explain I guess. I was just confused by your seemingly serious response to HLD's joke (that's the one I was referring to). Especially because you wrote "oh u guys know each other??". What he said was basically a comedic exaggeration of hkkmr's "evilness" since several people suddenly started to complain about him in the thread. That's why I was face-palming.

EDIT: Referring to what thePirate said: I'm often jokingly hostile as well...

    Where has he been?
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

betas like to be edgy though and i guess they have some innate sense of when the hostile thing said is just "joking around", or maybe they just dont take anything seriously? or they're turned on by that sort of thing? or all of the above?

but i'm sure it would come across to some extent online too... i've been on the receiving end of it from the betas when i first arrived on the forum selftyping IEI. It was not pleasant... but that's just cause i couldn't handle it. I was misunderstanding the humor, but that's what socionics is all about... mutual understanding/misunderstanding and the various degress thereof.

SLI humor can be very dry and sarcastic yes.

for my part, i really enjoy "jokingly hostile" atmospheres, but i don't always automatically take part in them, as it depends on who's involved, what's being joked about, my mood, etc.

i've met Fen multiple times IRL now, so my two cents: she is cautious, shy, quiet, and there is a feeling with her that you need to pull her out of her shell. she is always uncertain of herself, always saying things like "i don't know!" she is not one to direct the conversation. she asks lots of questions. she isn't judgmental nor demanding, being pretty flexible about what the group wants to do. if you apologize for something, she responds with something like "no, no don't worry about it!" to make you feel more comfortable & not guilty about it.

    take that as you will

Is this her 'default' response regardless of what's being said/done? Is she likely to say the same to someone who's said or done something hurtful or inappropriate?

Pretty much. I can't really think of a time I haven't just let things slide.
Well, there are certain instances where enough is enough, and I'll try to set boundaries and stuff, but...it's really hard for me and I don't like doing it.
I find no purpose in holding grudges and all that.
