You'll get various, uneven answers, because most people don't have enough experience with every type, and opinions on one person change with more experience of them. Personally, I would say that initially your hero is your benefactor, then progresses to your dual. In some circumstances (such as teacher/student relationships), your identical can be your hero.

For me? Identical. I can see it both in examples of famous people, and one guy that I know.

I can see what Cone means with the benefactor, but I wouldn't call that person a "hero" exactly... hmm... but would say you can get a lot out of those people. Just don't feel the same connection as with Identicals.

So hero could mean "mentor" in which case I'd say identical.

Or it can mean "savior" in which case I'd say maybe benefactor?

Jesus, I must be totally off-base.

    What is a "hero", then?

Personally, I thought it was the same thing as a role model; thus I chose benefactor and then dual, because these two can do things you can't do but want desperately to do.

Identical would only work if your identical is in a much higher position than you (like in age).

Hm...I would think of Heros as the typical example of Jungian "Shadow," which would imply Super-Ego or Dual, the way I see it. However, I have no heros, and thus cannot contribute statistically or in any meaningful way to the discussion.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

    A.

Best example I can think of is Peter Parker---although he may be INFj rather than INTj.

i always think of heroes as more successful, wiser, older versions of people who share the same values/goals/outlook on life as i do. generally, what heroes i have help keep me on track.

and i do not think your supervisor is your hero.

maybe your benefactor or your dual. your identical seems most likely.

Well I am back. How's everyone? Don't have as much time now, but glad to see some of the old gang are still here.

My heroes in childhood were almost all my benefactors, and in some instances my beneficiaries. Identicals too. My duals were always an object for me, something that i would like to somehow be connected too, feel in my blood, not really something I would like to be.

Yes, that is exactly what I thought a hero was.

I see what you are all saying, that a hero is someone who shares your own values/viewpoints and does something extraordinary with them. But really, I would never choose my identical as my hero--however this could also be from a lack of experience with hero-type identicals. I would rather choose a person that has enormous strength in those places where I identify as my weaknesses--like in confidence and courage--thus I choose benefactor then dual. Kind of like seeking for your suggestive function, I guess.

Maybe it is egocentric to think this, but I always thought that I was my INTp cousin's hero. So you all are probably right.

@Dioklecian: My avatar is Norbert Wiener, the inventor of the lost science of Cybernetics. Back in the fifties, he was probably the most famous scientist after Einstein.

In the movies, I think he is much more INTj than INFj.

In the comics - at least until the early 90s, when I stopped reading them - he was more INFj I think.

that peter parker discussion is cute.

Yeah, id say my hero is someone who's doing things that you want to do and is similar to me. So , identical and i also seem to admire xSTps (beneficiary and supervisor).
