It's not really fun for me either...I just love the feeling afterward. I can count on it to cure any sort of bad mood I'm in in an instant and that's why I love it. I don't mind running though...it's not a terrible experience. It's kinda fun to try and outdo yourself each time you go. A little challenge, if you will.

I could work out, but not at the gym. I would get paranoid that people are watching me work out, which is kind of weird.

I'm like that when I do weights just because I have no clue how to operate the machines and because I can't lift alot. I find this is a fear many people have but really, how often are you watching other people? Probably never. I usually just get on the treadmill and zone out.

That's what i've found to be the case as well. I mean, I do look around at people but i dont really judge. If anything, I admire them for being there and inspiring me.

And heck if the superficial people want to judge my appearances, fine. But they'll judge you wherever you might be, you can't do much about that. They're the ones wasting valuable brain cells on such things. Meanwhile, you are improving yourself.

Jesus christ, NO. It's NOT related to type. ANY type can go to the gym.

I got a gym membership for my ILE ex and myself. He ended up getting very bored at the gym. He also had an exceptionally acute sense of smell which immediately triggered some kind of feelings in him (Si-Fe?), which doesn't help in the gym since there are a lot of sweaty bodies in there. I felt it was too monotonous and a waste of time. I couldn't get any useful reading done. As I found out it required more concentration from than I could get at the gym. So after a while both of us opted out.

Nowadays I prefer exercising outside which generally amounts to taking 2-hour walks with intermittent jogging. Though I can't do any reading this way, I try to push myself to take different routes and sometimes discover the things about the town where I live that I would have never noted otherwise. This seems to be a good payoff for me.

Ugh i'm the same way, it's disgusting. Especially when people are inconsiderate and don't wipe the machine after using it...I realize it's a gym and isn't going to smell great but sometimes it creeps me out too much. I really, really don't enjoy smelling other people. If I think about it too much i probably wouldn't go either. I try to block it.

I can't find any motivation to go to the gym. Humans no longer have to engage in physical activity to provide for basic needs, so why bother? It would be better to let evolution run its course instead of trying to maintain vestigial musculature.

Humans do have a basic need for exercise. Without it you get fat, lose needed muscle tone to do basic things, feel crummier, have an impared immune system, look worse etc etc. Your body is a giant lymphatic pump and needs exercise to work it. Evolution isn't going to work that fast so that you can sit on your ass all day and have no exercise. Its built into our system so that if you start exercising you'll want to exercise regularly. And it GROWS NEURONS. Get a treadmill desk if you can't go to the gym or do an activity you enjoy. But really don't make some absurd claim about exercise being useless when its is a neccesity. Regular weight training 2-3x week and aerobic exercise (perhaps daily for 45 mins) are needed at minumum to maintain a healthy body. I acknoledge theres no NEED for large muscles or cosmetic things but thats the same for everything. You could dress in the same clothes and eat very plainly as well if you follow this logic.

^ It's funny I was on the treadmill today looking in the mirror and thought "x-hundred-thousand years ago I would have been chasing my food now..."

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

I agree with what abbie said about exercising as a side effect of doing something fun, but when you have a sedentary job for 8-12 hours a day, and dont get out until it's dark outside already, and cold (e.g. in the winter)or rainy, and arent good at any sports (and/or dont have time to play or dance for 2 hours and/or dont have a team or another person to play with), going to the gym is a way I make sure i get a good workout in on a regular basis. I gain weight really easily... and i like the feeling of being fit. I do slack at times, but basically belonging to a gym is a way i tell myself there are no excuses for not working out in a given day.

Excercise increases your appetite there's loads of health/ aesthetic benefits your missing out on.. more efficient blood circulation so more nutrients get to your skin, post workout endorphins & better quality sleep to name a few.

I cannot emphasize my agreement enough! And not just skin, but all your organs. Your vessels become healthier, your heart, etc etc. Tons of huge benefits to exercise besides losing weight. Just being thin does not necessarily mean you're healthy.

I wasted a gym membership last Spring. I was afraid to go to the gym because I was afraid of being seen and afraid of all the people... it makes me horribly anxious. My first attempt to go there, I chickened out and turned around a yard or two from the entrance. My second attempt I made it in the building and to the running cardio machine things, but the room was highly crowded and full of super fit people (I was instantly intimidated). There was only one open machine and I went to it (which took a lot of courage) and then I realized that I really wasn't sure how the machine worked (I mean I knew this before, but I definitely am afraid to ask anyone for help as that would make it even worse), and I looked at the buttons and what not and was afraid to push any of them because I wasn't sure what they would do or how it all worked, or really how I was supposed to position myself, and all of this heightened my social anxiety and so I "discreetly" exited the gym. I spent the rest of my membership planning my return.

Clearly I'm in the minority, but I always thought going to the gym was
for health reasons, not because of one's supposed personality type.

Not type related at all. It is all in how you perceive it. I used to be lazy about brushing and flossing until I had a tooth pulled now I do it every morning and night.
