Default I'd very much like a VI.

Hi. I am new to Socionics and find the VI system to be fascinating. I thought it might be fun to show you a picture of myself in hopes of being typed visually. Actually it's two pictures, hehe. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to reading through all these great topics.

(I couldn't figure out how to post the images as the html doesn't work? so here are direct links.)

Yeah, you kind of have to make sure the "always logged in" checkbox is checked and then log in twice (because the damn thing logs you right back out the first time.)

    Default First Guess

Unfortunately we do not have any resident VI experts, so you'll have to content with our guesses. Just off the top of my head, I would say ...
    INTP!
Do you feel reasonably confident about any of the four scales?

This is a difficult one...but my unfinished guess centers around INFp.

    But don't listen to that.

Believe me, Transigent, he's definitely not an ESTp or ENTp. And yes, I know what I'm talking about.

INTp? Maybe, but I highly doubt it.

Just trying to show some direction.

    Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®

An instrument for measuring a person’s preferences, using four basic scales with opposite poles. The four scales are: (1) extraversion/introversion, (2) sensate/intuitive, (3) thinking/feeling, and (4) judging/perceiving. “The various combinations of these preferences result in 16 personality types,” says Consulting Psychologists Press, Inc., which owns the rights to the instrument. Types are typically denoted by four letters--for example, INTJ (Introversion, Intuition with Thinking and Judging)--to represent one’s tendencies on the four scales.

    Hey Cone, you follow basketball?
    Basketball is the devil.

I thought this was interesting: What type is Allen Iverson?
    Let's see here...carry the three...*gasps in horror*

If my calculations are correct, Allen Iverson is an...an...INTp!

Alright discojoe, my guess for you will be ENTp.

    Hey Joe, whaddya' know?

You sound like a confused character,

if you expanded on your interests, we could get a closer idea to your type than through just pictures alone.

Are you into academic persuits?, theoretical sciences?
How about Maths, pure?, statistical?, applied?Computer science?, Software-engineering? AI? Computer Graphics?
    Theoretical Physics grab you?
Maybe you are into making music, through tools like Acid or Sibelius?
Maybe you are an artist, using tools like Abobe photoshop?, Paint shop pro?, maybe you make 3d models for fun?
This is a just a suggested list I pulled from someone.
    C'mon, gimmie the juicy details.

A lot of MBTI tests confuse intuition with intelligence, and I am afraid socionics is not immune to this either. Illusionary relations ((ISFP-ESTP) can work quite well, but on the other hand your girlfriend could have been mistyped too. This all is just speculation of course, but in my opinion, based on both socionics theory and my real life experiences, your self-description fits much better with ESTP than ENTP. I hope you are not offended, because many type descriptions seem to favor the intuitive types, but in my experience the costs of intuition often seem to outweigh the benefits. Especially with IQ as high as yours, sensing types are likely to do very well in life, as long as you avoid getting into serious trouble of course... You could work in psychology too, the fourth function (for both ESTPs and ENTPs Fi Ethics of Relations), is potentially quite strong, but developing it can a take a lot of time and effort.

    Default Role Function +Se

discojoe, you could very well be an ENTP. Visual Identification is highly controversial and pretty marginal in socionics - and above all none of us really knows much about it. Sometimes you just notice similarities, but looks can be deceiving... And yes online communication tends to distort things, we can only know what you choose to tell and how you want to present it. Many ENTPs are quite soft-hearted people, but of course there are many quite tough-minded ENTPs too - and ENTPs do have + Se Strong willed pressure from bottom up as their Role Function - it seems yours is very well developed, I envy you. It just seems to me that paying back for every insult is not likely to pay off in the long run. Of course being an INFJ I am your socionics Supervisor. Feel the pressure.

    ***EDIT***

ENTPs do of course have +Se as their Role function. According to the computer generated type description:

    +Se
the estimation of the external (form, physical force) and volitional qualities of individual person.
the skill to defend its personal interests: piercing power, persistence, confidence in itself, hardness.
the skill to mobilize itself and near environment to achieving personal of the goal presented, volitional pressure from bottom to top with the achievement of the objective.
tendency toward the retention of the authority: defensive tactics - protection, counterattack.
leadership (passive) in the small groups, the skill to estimate the arrangement of forces in such groups in the context of the leadership of individual people.
tendency toward the possession by material values as to attribute of power.
clear sensation itself and objects in the space, the organic nature of their arrangement: orientation in the specific locality (for example, city).
tendency toward the journeys (?), lung is overcoming space.
personal health as institute, force of will.
insubordination to the external superior forces (dispute), the subordination to itself of weak.
    subordination to internal force.
    http://www.the16types.info/beta1.php?typename=ENTP
(Remember that your first and second functions should be your strongest.)

    Default Role Function

    Quote Originally Posted by discojoe

Role function is your third function, the conscious functions for ENTP are Ne Ti Se Fi Role function is Se, the+/- functions theory is controversial. You find it in the computer generated type description you may choose to view. Role function is often what people instinctively want to demonstrate to strangers or in initial communication. Usually you try to follow established standards.

For example a short description from this site:

    Role Function
    weak
    accepting

Your role function never wants to stand out. You always try to go with the normal social behavior in this function, because you are unsure of it. You do not like criticism in this function therefore you won't give it.
    http://www.the16types.info/models.php

Or a long and rather messy one possibly according to classic Model A:

The third function receives less attention than the first two and accumulates information sporadically. One is never completely sure of whether one perceives things accurately with it or not, and one’s memory of things is often quite foggy. There is not always enough information available about this aspect of reality even for the individual himself to get by. The third function does not have its own distinct sphere of interests; almost any information out of the norm can interest the individual. When making decisions about this aspect of reality the individual hesitates and is unsure of himself and tries to get advice from others if he is sure they will treat him respectfully. The third function is quite sensitive to criticism and tries not to criticize or impose on others. Since it is difficult to withstand or counter other peoples’ views about this aspect of reality, individuals try to meet accepted standards and be at least average in this area. If they do make mistakes, they usually feel bad that others have not taught them to do better. In this area a person can give advice based on what they have heard from others but is usually too unsure of himself to actually help out. The third function needs others to help out without making a big deal of it. One needs to have someone who is always there to discuss issues relating to this function and approve one’s decisions. In this case the individual becomes much more self-assured and secure and begins to live more fully. And gradually his third function becomes an encyclopedia of useful information that others can gain much use from. The calmer and more secure one is about everything relating to one’s third function and the more attention one gives it, the greater one’s success. But the third function is never as categorical and forceful as the first and can never rise to the same heights of vision. At its best development it remains a practical instrument to serve the interests of the individual and those immediately surrounding him.

    Hmmmm.

Sounds good, CS. Seems like practical examples could help. I usually think of as being the facts and details of the external world that your 5 senses perceive. So 3rd function for entp is being uncertain of external stimuli perceived by your 5 senses?

I guess so. Sometimes I forget what is actually said because I've remembered my intuitive interpretation. If I force myself sometimes I can remember. Writing things down on a piece of paper helps tremendously!
