    Default Time

It seems as if people tend to believe life is too short, rather than long.

    1) Which do you believe?

    2) How accurate an observation is this (in relation to your unique understanding)?

    3) Assuming my statement is relatively accurate, what are some causes and effects? Drawing from personal experience and/or historical references, how might where one settles on this barometer effect their worldview?

    I might add questions later.

I believe that life is too long.

I could see people who want to do something big with it seeing their life as too short.

A being's #1 objective at all times is (or should be IMO) to stay alive.
It naturally follows that life is always too short.
If one believes it is too long, they are simply bored (momentarily or continuously) and should preoccupy themselves with interesting endeavors.

We spend anywhere from a quarter to a third of our lives sitting still. Although I agree that ignorance is bliss, I would much rather spend my waking hours on something logical and perhaps useful.

Life is just right to me. As far as that aspect goes. I think a lot of that stuff is predetermined by a higher power. Like it has to be. Oh we still have a lot of choices, and consequences and stuff, but it just seems that those sort of things, are determined by a lot of complex, big factors- that honestly hurt my brain, I'd rather just not think too much about it and jack off to gay porn. I suppose this makes me a simpleton. I wanted to be all important and special but I'm really just Sammy. =)

Yeah that's been my problem. I kinda had a complex for awhile, where I felt like Sylar from Heroes and wanted to revel in my outcastery ness and specialness.....but I really wasn't happy. It's difficult being smart though. You look around at people, and they do these things and you're like- it all looks white trash and smelly you know, like from my perspective I don't understand why somebody could want to do that (but then again the observer never sees what's real ooh that's interesting isn't it) and I see the ideal form of how it could be better, so much, from my safe distance, but there comes a time when you have to knock yourself off your high horse to feel the full range of human emotions again.

Although not as melodramatically stated, it's like that thing in American Beauty where that guy figured out a white trash trash bag blowing in the wind is the most beautiful thing.

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel

    Love that song, merky.

Yesterday I visited my grandfather. He's 89 and not doing so well. The battery in his pacemaker is dying and they need to recharge it, only that would require surgery which he's not strong enough to take. So my grandma and dad are facing the decision of what to do. I have to admit, I was thinking gosh, his quality of life right now is so low... why put him through surgery with the risk of infection and all sorts of other problems. But then when we visited him, I saw a spark of himself and he made me laugh several times and I didn't want him to die. But then I thought I'm just being selfish--wanting him to stay alive for my own sake. So I dunno... all of that to say that sometimes I think life drags on too long and I hope that I die in my 60s or 70s in a motorcycle accident or a heart-attack on my bathroom floor.

Overall though, I think I agree with B&D and I like everything he said on the subject.

Well I think with these things you shouldn't rush to any conclusions. You should sit with it and not try to force it or think about i.
