    Default ISTJ (c) socioniko.narod.ru

    Logical-sensory introvert
    (rational)
    ISTj
    Maxim Gorky, The Inspector

Maxim Gorky - the famous Russian writer.

    1. A consistent adept. He is able to rationally and adequately choose the best of the available systems or dogmas and to fight for its implementation uncompromisingly up to the point of impertinence. He categorically rejects everything that cannot fit into this system, and perfects it to its ideal state. He is very consistent in the realization of his system, even when it comprises inconstancy. In this way Talleyrand succeeded in occupying the highest positions under Bourbons, the Convent, the Directory, Napoleon, and once again under Bourbons, and finally died prosperous and rich, which he has always strived for.

    2. A sober realist. He never falls into despair or gives in to illusions; always he is equally stable, calm, and logical. He does not tend to fantasies and dislikes other people’s passion for hollow projects.

    3. Researcher. He tends to profound analysis of narrow problems, establishes fastidiously their correlation to what he has previously learnt. He knows how to listen, sometimes he can listen simultaneously to two interlocutors. His norm of loneliness is high. He does not read much, prefers more to reflect – this is his favorite condition. He always elaborates the accumulated body of knowledge for practical implementation. To those who do not understand the problem in so many details as he does, his actions may appear paradoxical and unpredictable. Often he finds a solution where others are “too shy” to find it.

    4. A mix of delicacy and adventurism. He is very reclusive and secretive. He does not like to be the center of attention. In communication, especially at a distance, he is sympathetic and not bothersome. At the same time, he needs listeners. He captivates people by his purposefulness in implementation of his own system. If he understands something and other people do not, he may fall into aggression. He is also stubborn and uncompromising, as a manager he tends to put the screws on. He is tactful, sympathetic to people; however, he treats them rather like instruments. Personal feelings, sympathies and antipathies do not distract him; the most important thing is the result. Ethic is submitted to logic (Stalin). He does not tolerate, when other people move his belongings – for him this is a grave insult. For him it is hard to tolerate aggressive people, although he does not strive to argue with them.

    5. Stoic. He is hardy and just, does not spend time for redundant conveniences. He prefers to hide his real feelings: hunger, fatigue, pain, and fear – “an ill child will not groan, in order not to injure his mother”.

    6. Close circle of friends. He does not hide his attraction to other people, sometimes it may even seem that he intends to show it. He does not leave unnoticed any person of the opposite sex. However, he can judge about other people’s feelings only by their external manifestations: e.g. how people look at him, speak with him. This is why he can easily mistake his desire to be loved for his partner’s real feeling. He is aware of that, and therefore is distrustful and suspicious.

Your dual (psychologically complementary type): Hamlet, The Mentor (ethical-intuitive extrovert).

    Default ISTJ (c) Gulenko

ISTJs often have a very firm, solid figure, especially males. They keep their feet rooted to the ground giving the impression that they are sturdy and secure. Their heads are firmly fixed squarely to their shoulders and are practically immovable. Their necks appear to be inflexible so when they turn their head their shoulders usually follow. Their facial expressions are somewhat unemotional and show great concentration.

Male ISTJs often wear a moustache. If they do not have one then there probably is a logical reason for it, as in general they all agree that a moustache is a good idea. Their clothes are often clean, ironed and tidy. They follow strict styles, never being too flashy or extravagant. It is as if military uniforms were designed specifically for ISTJs. They take great care of their appearance and may criticise people who do not.

ISTJs walk with their hands down by their sides. Their arms hardly seem to move at all and it can appear that their elbows have no joints. Their gait is usually even and rhythmical however from time to time ISTJs can turn sharply and unexpectedly, changing their course without warning.

Many ISTJs find it quite easy to interact with strangers and considering that they are introverts can feel quite close to someone even after a relatively short amount of contact. They often have a large compendium of jokes and anecdotes. Males often use this arsenal to charm females, usually behaving very gallantly, successfully playing role of the gentleman. They are often the life and soul of the party. They enjoy singing with little more than a guitar for accompaniment and often in a romantic style.

ISTJs try always to be punctual and appreciate this quality in others very much. They pay great attention to facts, figures and technical information. They try to work everything out in depth and down to the last detail. ISTJs are very realistic people. They are not supporters of unproved ideas or theories and will hesitate in undertaking uncertain projects. They believe that everything should be prepared carefully and accurately.

When in conversation, ISTJs often utilise common expressions and sayings and may sometimes be excessively instructive and edifying. This can be annoying to others. ISTJs like posters, placards, bills and the other printed propaganda. When they in informal surroundings they are often inclined to talk about subjects related to philosophy or morality. They may show an interest in religion, mysticism and predictions. ISTJs are always ready to share their knowledge with others and readily give people advice based on their own experiences.

As children ISTJs are very often obedient, docile, responsible and respectful. For this reason they are often used by adults as examples to other children. This will often lead them to take positions of responsibility while still at school. ISTJs adapt well to positions of power and are very dutiful. When in power they show good administrative and organisation skills. They demand the exact fulfilment of their orders and are uncompromising in these matters. They usually maintain strong discipline inside organisations. They like and respect authority and always obey subordination.

ISTJs like to collect reference material, encyclopaedias and dictionaries. They will never admit that they do not know something within the field of their activity. When they buy new appliances they always read the manual before using them even if the operations are obvious. At home they regimented in an almost military fashion. Every item has it's own specific place and they look after and take care of all their things. ISTJs can become very irritated and angry if somebody changes or interrupts this specific order or treats their possessions improperly.

They try to create comfort and order around them. They are good artisans and know how to make minor repairs. They generally like to work with their hands. They do not require much variety in their food and can eat the same thing for several days without any problem as long as it's of a high quality. ISTJs are unconfident in relationships. They are aware of this inability and as a result are very suspicious of other people, especially ones that do not interact openly with them. This may often cause an excessive paranoia.

Default ISTJ - subtypes (c) Gulenko

He is violent, impulsive, does not always correspondent to the order which he demands from others, at that he may condemn those who break this order. On a far psycological distance he is sociable and affable, but on a close one may appear to be intolerant. When wounded may reply with aggression. Aspires to leadership but it’s better for him to supervise a small collective (the best for the others – to be kept in cage. Joking... Translator's comment). Men frequently wear moustache, they prefer dressing in a free style.
    2) controller
The most rational logic type. He is very constructional, aspires to hierarchy, may “overorganize” all his associates, works thoroughly, carries every work to its conclusion, does not miss any detail. He isn’t dynamic, can’t stand confusion. Strict, self-restrained. He is official in working conditions and even with close relatives. He is also conservative in the way he dresses. His costume is usually strict, of dark tones, reminds uniform.

    Default Subtypes

These subtype descriptions by Valentina Meged - Psychologist (intuitive-ethical extrovert) ENFP and Anatoly Ovcharov - Craftsman (sensory-logical introvert) ISTP, can be confusing and opinions on them are divided but nonetheless they should be worth looking at, in my opinion they can be of some use in typing.

    This description was from www.socionics.org
    Sotsionicheskaya newspaper: № 01 (01), 22.11.2002

    Note of editorial staff.

Attention! Until now in sotsionike there is a large problem because the authors of the different theories of subtypes so did not agree about the general terminology. There exists as the minimum of 3 theories of 32 subtypes (authors of present article, V.V.Gulenko and Ye.S.Filatovoy). In each of these theories the type is divided into two subtypes, as the authors consider, with the "intensive" first or second function (i.e. for example logico- intuitive introvert it can be "logical" or "intuitive" subtype). Problem in the fact that each divides type in in own way own way, and here terms are used the same. We request to consider this with reading of article.

We focus attention on the fact that also the pseudonyms of types all the more subtypes, used in this article, they are not in sotsionike conventional.

    Logico- sensory introvert: INSPECTOR, ISTJ
View in LSI somewhat fixed, entire noticing. For a while it occurs fixed on face of collocutor, then it slips off. It looks, as a rule, without the special expression, but sometimes in the view appear alertness, the concealed distrustfulness, suspiciousness.

Smile benevolent, but appears a little artificially. Laughter also seems unnatural, forged. Mimicry is sufficiently monotonous and poorly expressed. Usually LSI seems by cold person, although in the contact he tries by compliments or by smile to change this impression.

Gait forged or shuffling. Feet LSI are placed sufficiently directly, stepping by entire foot. When it stands, pose seems somewhat monumental, that thickened. It is held directly, even if it is a little round-shouldered. It sits exactly, without being pulled down. It is pulled, accurate, it is held with the merit.
It is now and then unexpectedly it is categorical and cuttings in the judgments and it does not suffer objections, but into the long discussions usually it does not enter. It does not love familiarity in the contact, but itself tries to create close distance with the collocutor, if he wants to arrange it to itself. In this case can smile even several zaiskivayushche.

    INSTRUCTOR

Logical subtype are confident in itself, it is calm, restrained, dryish, correct and not penetrated. It now and then seems haughty. Is moderately amiable, imperturbable bezemotsionalen. It is very polite and attentive to the details of conversation, loves everything to refine and to explain. It stops on not very essential for other details. It is leisurely, now and then even sluggish. It loves to obtain the detailed and comprehensive information to its questions. It does not love uncertainty. It is internally very assembled.

It loses the presence of spirit and tries never to encourage those, who need its support. Has the straight line, fixed, which looks as through the collocutor, the view, but not experiencing, but is more indifferent. Motions measured off, but somewhat forged. With walking it a little shuffles by foot-wear. When it is turned, it makes this with entire body. It seems that the neck is fixed on the arms, it does not love to twirl by head.

    CONTROLLER

Sensory subtype appears by more agitated in his behavior and internally more emotional person. It is reticent, but it is very obstinate and it can enter the conflict, when they are not considered its opinion. If it flares up, it is superfluously sharp and categorical in its statements.

It is restrained, cold, it does not love objections and long explanations. Constantly unnoticeably it follows the actions of others, trying soak to them or the errors. It is sometimes agitated by anything and observations are made, sometimes undertakes for the matter itself or tries soak to make it better without the excess words. By periods it attempts to correct position and then smiles preuvelichenno politely. With walking "is stamped" the step. Gait is sufficiently rapid. He appears by man pulled and active. It dresses conservative, although sometimes it attempts to appear aesthetically, even it is fashionable. With the conversation he tries to approach the collocutor, but without the direct contact. It is not inclined to the affectionate rotation even with the relatives.

What careers/vocations/jobs are ISTjs inclined towards? And, for any examples you give, could you please state why the ISTj would enjoy and/or be good at that particular job?

    Thanks in advance.

I suppose I'd like to think that the Xenomorph represents the inner beast of the ISTj - what it can become when the situation causes his uncivilised, most brutal self to come out.

But what about grasshoppers and bees? Why them? What about other animals, like bears (solitary, only attack if provoked) or tigers (solitary, fierce, simple) or cranes (calm, balanced, disciplined)?

Tigers have already been taken by the INTps. Cranes might work, though.

How about giraffes? Fluid-moving, stately, noble, quiet, etc.

You mean that the Predators are more likely to be ISTjs than Xenomorphs? In my opinion, it would be really interesting if it turns out that many movies and books have one evil ISTj and one good ISTj, each fighting against each other. When have it in the Matrix (Morpheus vs. Agent Smith), we have it in Star Wars (Mace Windu vs. the Emperor), why not here?

I don't think that the exercise bit can really point towards extroversion or introversion.

Determined -- that's resoluteness, or decisiveness, which is a common Beta and Gamma feature, also for INFps.

Cherry and optimistic - more like in ego. I don't see INFps as depressive-looking.

"Cute personality" means little, yet this is how INFps are often described.

However, when I read the whole text I do find easier to think of ENFj than of INFp.

This is where Quadras can be taken too far.

I don't think most INFPs would be decisive, resolute, or determined (unless they were really, really well trained), but a Delta type- ESTJ- is far more likely.

Sounds extraverted to me, what do you think?
could be INFp. i know an INFp who i might describe as such, minus the "determined" part. his speech & the things he say can sound resolute & determined, but i doubt i'd use that adjective to describe his personality in general. anyhow, that girl sounds more ENFj than INFp.
