He does sound a lot like my ENFj dad. A LOT. Though that could be a dad thing.

He looks a scary lot like my dad too. Well my dad has red hair but still a lot alike in the expression on his face. My dad even wore his hair like that back in the early 60s.

    Well, think about it:

    - He's overdramatic at times.
    - He's bursting with energy.
    - He's blunt with his opinions.
    - He's heavily focused on the family.
    - Quick and careful.

I'd say that's ENFj, all right.

yeah, i agree, it sounds right! there's just something missing for him to be ENFj. if he's ENFj, he doesn't remind me of any of the male ENFjs i have ever known (aside from being dramatic sometimes.)

he's blunt in his opinions, yeah, but not in that ENFj way. i seriously don't think he realizes at all when he's being blunt.

Well, let's assume for a moment that your dad is a definite ENFj. If you have never even thought for a second that your dad was ENFj, then perhaps it is that every other ENFj guy you knew really wasn't ENFj. It is possible.

Cannot see ESTp, sorry. I think the fact that your mom thought he was ENFp really points to something important.

So, I may be horribly wrong, but I will DIE with ENFj.

That he's an emotional person, plus some other obscure stuff. Just read the ENFp description...

But he's seems too energetic to be ENFp or ESTp.

The description reminds me of a toned down ENTj but not sure. The whole no tolerance for idiots sounds very ENTj to me. There are other types that feel this way but their the only type I know who verbalizes it usually

Just the fact that he's a surgeon too. I seem to know a lot of ENTjs who excelled in the medical field. They also make excellent administrators and leaders

One of my former bosses was an ENTj female and she was the first female Dean of Health Professions at the University where I worked and started the job when she was in her 30s!!!. Her accomplishments and ethics always impressed me for the most part, we just disagreed a bit on method. I felt she would make rash decisions occassionaly but for the most part, her decision making was so good, you really couldn't complain.

I could see why they might want a stay at home wife. The ones I know are so driven, that it would be awesome for them to have someone to take care of all the daily household things. Plus you can't be tuff all the time and its nice to have someone to let you card down with.

Your dad sounds like a really wondeful man.

This still sounds like my dad, except replace "tango" with "jitterbug". And replace "medical texts" with "history books" - my dad was a history teacher. Oh and replace "I just called to say I love you" with "Michelle" (by the Beatles).

I say ENTj, if pressurized, I'd add thinking style.

Massive bluntness only exists in thinking style types in "rational" people. That is people who waffle between ST and NT. Again also the breadth of random knowledge associated with ENTjs.

No patience with suckiness is actually EST behaviour corresponding to his thinking style. Some ENTjs do it.

Good memory for specifics implies sensoric ability. Or he could just be showing off, letting nobody know how much it takes from him to remember that poetry.

Being a googly-eyed moron when with your wife is sort of a badge of honor for the romantic ENTjs. The difference with an ENFjs romance is that an ENFj is a fantacist, stranger ideas but less actual romantic deeds than with the ENTj.

Hmm, Erwin Rommel is another thinking style ENTj fetish, almost on par with machiavelli. Was he specially interested in that general or did you get the whole treatment? (note: I don't know what type Rommel was but the way he's usually portrayed strikes a chord with ENTjs, I'd guess with ESTjs as well but they don't gush as much.)

Pretty much ditto to everything SmilingEyes cited. ENTj would be my guess. As I said: puts up a "manly" front, then gets all gushy towards his better half. <- sounds like a few ENTjs I know.

That's true. But we don't really know the specifics. There might be reasons that have nothing to do with his personality for the divorces. We don't even know if he was divorcing, being divorced or if some of his wives weren't divorced but died.
Also, his Te seems very strong. He might periodically act like an ESTj: prematurely throw away something slightly problematic.

I actually think ISTP or something close. The cursing thing is a definite. Don't ENTJs like to stay light and cheery? When I think about it, he reminds me a lot like my ISTP uncle.

Socionics ISTP, but more likely undifferentiated attitude. (xSTP)

Does his behavior imply anything like, viewing the external consequences of internal motivations? Does he remark about what people are likely to do given their circumstances?

There are definitely some things that could be ESTJ. Since that was a feeling I had, and it was mentioned he could be ENTJ, then there is probably dominant possibility. Also, Expat and Smilingeyes saw ENTJ behavior. So, in conclusion, he's probably ENTJ.

    Nonsense.

If you look at my typings and of all the other ENTjs here - rightly or wrongly - we certainly do not mostly think everyone we type is ENTj. Not even the majority. It's rather that's it's easy for us to recognize them.
